Did half this country not take basic science class? Did they get the Music Classes I wanted?

Today I'm bothered by this because of a woman I saw on TV say a phrase that's like nails on a chalk board to me. "Evolution is only a theory." Only a theory, is a not so veiled attempt at saying it hasn't been proven. WRONG It HAS been proven. Take a look at this article on evolution. Evolution is both a fact & a theory. The evidence is overwhelming. From the Chronicle of Higher Education 4/7/2006, "It is, in fact, as close to truth as any science is ever likely to get."

If you've ever taken a basic science class there are some things everyone learns very early. But that some clearly ignore.
I found the website of a gentleman who was a Science Teacher for 13 years where he explains the Scientific uses for the words Law, Hypothesis, & Theory. Law- A statement of fact meant to explain, in concise terms, an action or set of actions.  Conservation of Matter- Matter can neither be created or destroyed- This is a Law. Hypothesis- This is an educated guess based upon observation, but which has not been proved. I hypothesize that C students don't make very good Presidents- Hypothesis (mine). Theory-A theory is more like a scientific law than a hypothesis. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers. This teacher wonderfully makes the comparison of Scientific Laws & Theories using a slingshot & a car as an example.  A scientific law is like a slingshot. A slingshot has but one moving part--the rubber band. If you put a rock in it and draw it back, the rock will fly out at a predictable speed, depending upon the distance the band is drawn back.  A theory is like the automobile. Components of it can be changed or improved upon, without changing the overall truth of the theory as a whole. Put all the rims you want on the car or add a can of Nitrous, it's still a moving car. For example, Darwin & Mendel both had different ideas on what causes Evolution, but with the underlying fact that Evolution happened remains.

On 30 Days they showed what was called "Biblically Correct Tours." This is where a creationist takes you on a tour of a museum and gives you, "The other side of the story." You know how dinosaurs and humans lived side by side.

I can try to echo the thoughts of one of the Paleontologists who worked at the museum when he said that it's presented as "the other side of the story" when it's not even in the same discussion. I'd prefer to say, IT"S BULLSHIT, but I can be a bit crass sometimes. What I find amazing is when the creationists question the veracity of the Paleontologists findings. Those same creationists tend to be pro-death penalty, and one of the arguments for the death penalty is DNA evidence & the Dating of bones. How accurate the evidence can be when a murderer is caught nowadays.
It's the same technology. They can't have it both ways. The technology can't be indisputable when it comes to putting someone to death. Yet, still be fallible when it comes to proving evolution.

I guess I can get off my soapbox now.
