Jason narrows his gaze at Alex. "What're doing? A gift's a gift." Jason reaches in Alex's pocket and takes out the baseball card. "Thanks." He says with genuine affection before turning to Eddie.
"Here. S'all right. Lexi can be nice when he wants t'be, and he wants t'be now." Jason kisses Eddie's cheek and winks at him as he pulls back.
Jason's expression visably flinches and he looks at Eddie. "I wasn't," He's only marginally certain what 'patronise' means and he knows it isn't good. "I just thought that maybe y'liked it is all. You could put it up at one of them charity auctions for some cause y'like. Rais some money." Jason reached out and touched Eddie's cheek with his hand. "Eddie, m'sorry. I wasn't trying t'offend y'."
Eddie stares at Jason for a moment and then shrugs. Sooner or later, Jason'll have to learn that when Eddie's decided he doesn't want do something, trying to make him do it is only going to more determined not to. "I give cash donations. Charity auctions are all about publicity and..." And high profiles and articles in newspapers. They're not for him. He grins suddenly, as he remembers something. "Hey, guess what?"
Jason slipped the baseball card into his back jeans pocket; he would see what it was worth later and sell it and give the money to his favorite cause: Ranuccio by betting on the man's next fight.
Jason smiled and reached down to take Eddie's hand in his own. "What?"
"Me and some of the guys are gonna go away next week for a few days on a hunting trip." Eddie's obviously looking forward to it. Spend a few nights out in the woods with his teammates; hunting, drinking, and joking around. And, best of all, he'll be incommunicado for those days, not owning a cell phone. The only thing that bothers him is not being able to talk to Jason, but it's only a few days. And then he'll be back. "So I'll be out of contact for awhile."
Heartbreak entered Jason's voice, concern and defiance his gaze. "Wh-what? You're going away? Eddie..." Jason wanted to ask to go along but it wasn't what Eddie wanted; he could see that. Eddie wanted to hang out with his mates that understood baseball; that lived baseball.
"We should get y'a cell phone. That way y'can ring me. If y'find a signal you can ring me and let me know how you are."
Not that Eddie would call; not that he wouldn't loose the phone the very first hours he had it in his possession; but at least the thought of Eddie being able to contact him was enough.
"It's only for a few days. Not like I'm going to the Sahara Desert for five years." Eddie couldn't help but smile at the look on Jason's face. He didn't mean to, but that expression of dismay gave him a feeling like a warm blanket had been wrapped around him. Jason actually cared if he was gone, even if it was only for three or four nights.
A cell phone. Chuck had been bugging him to get one for years now and Eddie had always flat out refused. They were annoying. They rang at bad times and people called his home phone enough as it was, Eddie really didn't think anything was so urgent that he had to be contactable twenty four hours a day.
But Jason wanted him to get one, and Eddie knew if he didn't compromise on some things they'd fight all the time. And anyway, he kind of liked doing things that made Jason happy. "But I can get a cell phone organised."
"I c'n do that for y'if y'want. Just have my number and your agent's in it. Evan's for extreme emergancies but other than that, no one will know the number right?" Jason held Eddie close and nuzzled into his throat. "Mmm? Just me ringing you mostly or vise versa?" Jason nibbled at Eddie's jaw. "Eh? Sound good, Yank?"
Jason was a bit tense. He didn't want Eddie to leave but if it's what the man wanted than Jason would relent. He wanted Eddie to be happy after all and hunting with three other guys from the team made him so then...Jason hugged Eddie tightly.
"I love you too." Eddie smiled, bemused by Jason's reaction, and returned the hug, rubbing his hands across Jason's back.
"Don't worry about the cell. I'll get it sorted and let you know the number before I go." Eddie presses a kiss to Jason's cheek. "Don't stress, Jason. I'll be back before you know it." Never before has Eddie had someone make such a fuss about him going away for a few days. It's both strange and warming.

He's just not a nice guy.

*Alex pockets the card, fairly certain he can find another use for it eventually.*
