On the new star trek.
Saw the new Star Trek tonight. Was pretty good. You should see it. Few notes:
First, the non-spoilers.
Saw the movie in this new-fangled digital IMAX thing. First of all, if the screen aint 5 stories tall, it ain't IMAX, in my opinion.
That being said, the digital projection was pretty much perfect. Sound was good.
In fact it might have been too good. It highlighted the fact that the focus in a closeup on one of the Spocks was soft. Or was that an error in the up conversion to imax format? I guess I'll have to watch a regular old print to find out.
AND OH MY GOD THE FLARE.
Flare was not something in the original series. The DP should be fired. The Flare covered people's faces, for fucks sake. If the instrumentation panels were that bright, everybody would have trouble reading them, damnit.
Wait, go back a second. What do I mean 'one of the Spocks'? There's only one Spock right?
And so...
There, you've been warned.
Still, very good all around. If I had a criticism, it's that they went through too much exposition too fast. Old Spock should know how to breathe.
And what the hell, 2 mass genocides? Vulcans and Romulans endangered species? That's like, ridiculous.
Oh yeah, and Spock Dies.
