Late Night with Conan O'Brien: Final Week: Episode Four: Critique.

Feb 20, 2009 01:39

Rather than run the play by play for you of tonight's Conan, the almost last episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, I'm going to point out something I noticed about it.

It was an alright show, but I think Tuesday's and Wednesday's shows were better.

That isn't all I noticed, though. This one was still pretty good, and interesting too.

Interesting because, for a show that's about to end, everything they showed seemed to reference other shows.

First thing they brought out? The Walker Texas Ranger lever.
Next? Conan in Finland. (An episode least like any other episode of the show.)
Then? Jerry Seinfeld. Doing standup, no less!
And lastly? A Broadway star.

What does it say about a show, that, in its final moments, devotes a lot of time to other shows?

I think it's brilliant, but wtf does it mean?

By the way, Conan really looks angry when he's destroying the set. I think we've seen him fake angry before, but he's serious about destroying that set.

Perhaps, by showing clips from other shows, he's trying not to think about tomorrow, Conan's final taping of Late Night.

As he signed off at the end of the show, there was a real desperation in his voice. "Please join us tomorrow."

You bet I will, Conan. You bet I will.
