Well...i know i'm an atheist. i wouldn't agree that i have plenty of in-depth intellectual conversations, though. They make me nervous. In fact, i'm quite well known at work for starting the randomest, most ridiculous "conversations" and blurting out totally irrelevant observations. I'm all over the place. Sometimes, this makes me feel smart; other times, i feel like an ass.

This weekend was rather hectic, except for saturday when i wasted most of my time. I had to get the car from the Ajax train station parking lot since i left it there friday night so i could go to the Secret Handshake show in toronto. Chantelle and i took the bus down, and got to the house around 10, at which point there was no one there. So we had a couple of drinks at Sneaky Diseases and went back. This time, there were a bunch of art freaks "rocking out" to some band. We were only able to stay for one song of the Secret Blah blahs, which was disappointing, i liked them. We took the bus home.

Finally at 6pm, i got the focus and energy to go get my car. i got some booze and headed to Chantelle's (yes, it's always the same "Chantelle". I don't have an army of friends named "Chantelle". Although that would be cool, especially if they all had a temper like hers. A bunch of fiesty bitches :D Yikes. They could chase cars down the street a la T1000. ANYWAY. I'll work out the details later.)

Right. So we packed her stuff, got it all ready for sunday, and drank a bit.

Sunday, we packed up my car and met with her landlord in Scarborough to grab the keys for her new apartment. We got to the place, unloaded, and did the whole thing twice more. Her mom and brother helped out with the van as well. By the time we were done unloading, it was 10-ish, and we still had to get to the Career Suicide/Fucked up/Brutal Knights show. I was pretty excited for this show, not because i really follow any of these bands (i'd seen CS and FU once with Born Dead Icons a couple years ago with Garrett, and we both agreed it was the best shows we'd been to in a long time.)but because i've been in the mood for some basic, fast, thrashy punk. I've been listening to too much Neko Case, Tom Waits, and other generally not-punk-rock stuff, which is fine, but now i want something agressive and catchy. Anyway, it was at the El Mocambo, which i hadn't seen in a while, the upstairs has really changed and become much roomier. There were tons of people there, more than i've seen in a long time. then again, i pretty much only go to shows i play myself these days.
Unfortunately, we missed career suicide and the first band, Pink Eye. The Brutal Knights were quite good, i picked up a 7" EP (blegh) and a shirt. Fucked up were good also. Before their set, people came, apparantly out of nowhere? I don't know how it happened, but suddenly there were a bunch of people with carved pumpkins on their heads. One guy took his off and looked for a head to plop it on. I guess mine fit the criteria, and my defensive reaction was slowed by the rum, so on it went. It was pretty heavy...I took it off and held it up over my head. The guy behind me looked nervous. People were getting all into it and lurching around before fucked up had even started. Then they started playing, i got bumped and dropped the pumpkin behind me over my head onto some dudes, and dumped half my beer at the same time. It was messy and fun. Everyone seemed to be having a blast. I enjoyed the set thoroughly, however, i am not certain why they are so insanely popular. Granted, they are a decent band, but there's not much to their songs. I guess that's part of the appeal of hardcore. That's what i wanted anyway, so i'm not complaining.

Well, after that, we took the bus to Chantelle's new place. It's really quite nice, there's a view of the CN tower from the living room as well as a park and a good number of trees. It's really clean and newly renovated. There will be plenty of Indian restaurants to frequent, and what she's most excited about is it's proximity to fun times. No more having to leave early to catch the train/bus home to the suburbs.
I slept very little, and went to work. Luckily today was not very demanding. We finished excavating the last couple of features at Mantle, and took a look at the new site. Unfortunately, the crew is being broken up, with annie going back to the office and neil and jay doing survey. That is a shame, because they are part of the reason my job is so fun. We joke around constantly.

I've been much more contemplative lately, yet unfocused. I feel dazed. I can't organize my shit. I need to pack tonight, and ignore the doorbell. I've decided not to afford halloween candy this year. I need to compress files. Maybe i'll turn up the Mitch Hedberg and get busy.
