Bulimia is bulimia is bulimia?

We all know that a lot of people go through times of bulimia, overeating and anorexia in turns and that the lines between eating disorders blur a lot of the times. However, I suddenly find myself thinking "am I really bulimic at all?" since learning that I've got a metabolic disorder and can't lose weight normally/quickly/hardly at all ( Read more... )

When you are underweight and starving it is different from having weight on you and starving. Yes so I'm saying being underweight causes cognitive changes lots of irrational thoughts. You can see it with people in IP treatment. When I was starving myself at a normal weight it was totally different than when I got emaciated and starved myself. With anorexia they usually don't work on heavy cognitive stuff until they are able to rationalize. My mind was so impacted from being vastly underweight that I could not speak for a time that is not likely to happen from normal weight starvation. When you brain totally runs of places to find nourishment because there are not fat stores to run basic function that creates a whole different ballgame. I know what I'm saying might annoy people because I'm basically saying weight matters when analyzing sickness but weight is not the only factor to take into account. I think they should do a list of risk factors and assess treatment from there with weight being one of them. You could have an anorexic who restricts and a bulimic at a normal weight who purges and uses laxatives and I would say the bulimic would likely be just as sick as the anorexic if not more both have two risk factors so one should not be bumped in front of the other. The system is broken now because it only focuses on weight and assesses severity based on that but it is a very significant factor it just should not be the only one.
