I went to the new Star Trek movie with some trepidation, because you know "they" are trying to make a movie about "my" Star Trek.
I saw the trailers and was not really impressed by them and was kinda rolling my eyes at them because I was thinking "oh great, they've turned my show into Star Trek 90210!" Yes, the special effects looked awesome, but the actors....well I had my doubts.
But I decided to go and give it a try because I have heard goods things about J.J. Abrams and figured he wouldn't dishonor the memory of a T.V. show that so many loved, so I went.
And I am so glad I did!!! The movie was great...fun...entertaining and just a joy to watch! I really recommend it to all!! Go...watch...enjoy. I think it is well worth the money!
I went to 1200 noon showing, I figured I would avoid the crowds and really just enjoy the movie and if it was bad, I wouldn't hear alot of complaints. And as it turned out, the people were all Trekkies!! There was a buzz in the theater, everyone was excited about the movie. I mean when the Coca-cola question (you know the questions they ask about movies and actors) asked "Who said Live long and prosper?" and everyone in the theater shouts "Spock!" You know you are with the right crowd.
Anyway, the movie started and we all settled down to watch it.
Beware of spoilers if you read what is under the cut!!
First thing was that Kirk's dad dies in the first few minutes of the show and I was like....that's not right I thought Kirk's dad lived to see him become Captain....hmmm. Well ok, maybe I was wrong. The movie goes on and I find myself enjoying it. We next see Uhura and then McCoy and we learn how he gets his nickname of "Bones"
Each time a character comes on the screen the crowd would applaud and that was great!! Each time a character said something that was just so in character...we would applaud.
But as the movie progresses, I kept thinking "Thats not right. That didn't happen to our character." so still going...hmmm.
And thinking this Abrams guy was getting it wrong because he was not familar with our Star Trek. Kept watching because it just so damn good!!
Then toward the end, we find that this a different time line!! Well, that made sense! We learn this when we see the orginal Spock , Leonard Nimoy, and yes the crowd once again erupted into applause So a different time line, just few difference, not too much...Ok I could live with that. You know under normal circumstances I would have been upset with that, but for some strange reason I wasn't! And the others in the audience were ok with it as well... go figure!!
Even tho it was a different time line with a few slight difference, the movies ends with everyone in their places. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Sulu, Checkov and Scotty and we hear Leonard Nimoy reciting the opening monlogue from the T.V. show, you know the one..."to boldly go where no one has gone before"...as we see the Enterprise fade off into the distance. Gosh, that brought tears to my eyes and sent shivers down my spine! Everyone in the audience stayed seated and applauded all during the closing credits!
Yeap, I had a great time and left the theater contended, happy and thinking "I have got to buy the DVD when it comes out!"
Live Long and Prosper!!
