tragic fish news

Sep 20, 2005 15:46

augustus, my beautiful swishy red fish, passed away shortly after i left the states. he will be remembered as the best red fish. he always kept me company and i will (do) miss him. also, my mother didn't tell me until last night. if baron dies, they better fucking tell me. also, if baron dies i'm definitely not going home.

computer is still broken. and in this continuing theme, so is the laundry machine, still. my clothes sat in a big puddle for two hours and when nothing happened i put them in a trash bag which i took to the laundromat two days later. people (that one girl) keep trying to do laundry and it keeps not working and i keep rolling my eyes at them (her). i still hate wearing my glasses, but i'm adjusting nicely so now i don't get motion sickness on the bus, nor do i trip walking up & down stairs. last night we took a spectacularly dodgy bus to dalston kingsland (read: the ghetto) to see a play about child prostitution. it was the first play baz's wife tiff has been able to see with us because she's usually with their kids. they called it 'date night.' gee golly, i hope afterbirth is still running next time i go on a date. child prostitution is certainly good times. and there are never awkward moments. gah.
yesterday our history professor, sean piggot, told us he was glad we're smarter than the other class he has, kids from t.c.u., some school in texas. he said teaching them is like teaching a room full of sedated pandas. except that pandas would be better because he could tickle them and they would roll around the floor. he joked that when he mentions berlin, he has to specify that it is the capital of germany, which is in europe. then he said that he wasn't joking. according to sean, we will shamefully benefit  from t.c.u.'s stupidity because they make us look so much better. i'm looking forward to that.
today liz and i went to the british museum after class and wandered around for a few hours. we saw the rosetta stone and i bought my first stupid souvenir: a rosetta stone keychain. i <3 museums. except the museum of london. i was dark there and very boring.
according to the card balance email we just got from school, i'm doing really well conserving my food stipend. if i've spent less than $470 (£240) by the end of september, i get to splurge on something. i've only spent about $160 (£80) so i get to go shopping in ten days. or better yet, i'll take it out and use it as cash in italia, which is where i will be for fall break. piza, florence, rome. sarah, victoria, kevin, and i are booking the trip this week.
tomorrow we're seeing shakespeare's pericles at the globe. yay, three hours of standing, hoorah! i wish we were seeing a shakespeare play i actually care about. i'd gladly stand for three hours to see one of the comedies. thursday we have a walking tour... somewhere. and friday another one that takes us to places from dicken's novels. i want to go on the jack the ripper walking tour.
still waiting for packages from home (coat, contacts, something from kirk- probably a book he gave me which i left at his parent's house over the summer). time to head home for dinner.
