Before I forget,
good HIV news. Nice to see something hopeful.
I love
my neighborhood. And the
next one over, too. I moved into the city last week and I so love it. So many cool little places, so much diversity, such beautiful views - it is just a great place to live. The only thing that sucks is the (complete lack of) parking. I'm debating shelling out for a garage space but it makes me sad to pay more in rent for my car than I paid for rent for myself in Ecuador. Given that my own car is currently in a coma in Virginia and
sillyduck8 is gonna need hers back in November, I may go car-less. Or do something like
I-GO. The only thing that worries me is that I'm gonna need to make sporadic trips back to the corn, which is hard to do without a car.
The weather has been fabulous, gorgeous and sunny but not too hot. I've been taking long walks, exploring things around here (yay for 2 coffee shops with free internet within 2 blocks of my place!), hanging out by Lake Michigan, getting unpacked. Phone and TV should be on today, internet will take a bit longer but that's ok. I'm not used to cities being so green. Trees everywhere and lots of parks, the one thing I have disliked about cities is all the concrete, but the parts of the city where I spend my time just feel more nature-friendly. Yesterday I had a break at lunch (after a crazy crazy week) and had a picnic at
Oz Park. Sitting on the grass in the sun looking up at the Chicago skyline - it was so peaceful.
I am really, really happy to be here. Of course I miss my kids a lot, and I haven't met that many people in the city yet, but I think for the first time since I went to Ecuador, I've found a place in the US where I could see myself living long-term.
