IC Information:
Name: John Egbert (Online handle: ectoBiologist)
Fandom: Homestuck
Timeline: Immediately prior to 'waking up' in the Act 4 Finale. AKA [S]Descend.
Age: 13 yrs.
Appearance: John is relatively skinny 13-year-old kid with messy dark brown/black hair and is never seen without a pair of square-rimmed glasses over his brown eyes to aid his presumably poor natural vision. He has three outfits of choice. The first being his casual jean-shorts and a t-shirt with the "Green Slime Ghost"(A Japanese interpretation of Slimer from Ghostbusters) emblazoned on the front.
By the time he arrives at the facility, he has two rather classy outfits. The WISE GUY SLIME SUIT, which is a blue suit with a green tie and the Green Slime Ghost emblazoned on the right breast, presumably also has at least some varying manner of amateur magician tricks up its sleeves (See: OH SHIT THERE GO THE CARDS). The other, the JUNIOR ECTOBIOLOGIST'S LAB SUIT, is a light green lab coat with dark green pants, with a black belt with the Green Slime Ghost as a fastener. He also, through alchemitizing(A sort of punchcard-based bit Alchemy that can combine items), made it so his glasses also function as SERIOUS BUSINESS GOGGLES, which allow him hands-free communication with him and his friends.
Abilities:
As with everyone in Homestuck, John has a Sylladex - a Hammerspace-style Inventory system based on assigning items to 'captchalouge cards' in a deck, though John's may be the most difficult by his own design. His original fetch modus was STACK MODUS, which operated on a First-In, First-Out structure, essentially meaning he could only retrieve the last thing he put into his inventory. Later, he found a card for a QUEUE MODUS, which complicated things further by making it so he could only retrieve the last thing he put in his inventory.
As a present from his Dad for his birthday, he was given the FETCH MODUS CONTROL DECK and the ARRAY fetch modus, which allowed him to grab any card he pleased. Finding this difficult to use for combat(Not to mention BOOOORING), John combined this with his previously acquired STACK and QUEUE modi to create the rather complex QUEUESTACK ARRAY. Which allows him to choose any one of four six-card QUEUESTACKS and retrieve either the first or last item from them. It should be noted that, if a QUEUESTACK is full and John tries to put something inside of it, it will be, elegantly put: "ejected out like a frightened weasel", effective launched forward.
John has an assortment of various hammers, all of which he is quite proficient at using, having allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS(His weapon of choice) to HAMMERKIND. However, without these he's probably a not very good fighter, due to allocating his main specibus to hammers, meaning that's what he's the best at using. He has shown to also be moderately good at piano playing, enough at least to play his theme - Showtime. Among him and his friends (Rose, Jade and Dave), he seems to be fairly computer-centric, and considers himself an amateur programmer, with at least enough knowhow to have figured out how the alchemy system in Sburb works. (Hacker Level as of Entry: E)
Even though he's probably pretty tough and remarkably agile for what you'd see in a 13-year-old (He's quite capable of SWEET DODGES and SWEET CATCHES, and has taken a serious beating from two ogres simultaneously), a lot of the power John has comes from the seriously sweet loot he has acquired/made over his journey. Between the POGO HAMMER (A sledgehammer with springs attached to the heads), the WRINKLEFUCKER (Combined irons with Pogo Hammer, so that instead of normal spring-loaded hammer heads it was spring-loaded RED HOT IRONS), a pair of REMOTE GHOST GAUNTLETS (Remote controlled gloves that control slightly larger flying ghost hands that can lift things several times John's weight) the TELESCOPIC SASSACRUSHER (A giant hammer wielded by John's REMOTE GHOST GAUNTLETS, since been lost to a monster), and FEAR NO ANVIL (A hammer gifted to him by Future Dave after he stopped him from killing himself - more on that later -, it has the built-in power to stun enemies, trapping them in time), John's obviously got some of the coolest - or at least the most function gear - among his friends. As of this moment in the timeline, the FEAR NO ANVIL is his primary weapon, though the WRINKLEFUCKER could very well make an appearance, as John has shown a rather innate ability to dual-wield hammers, as crazy as that sounds.
As one of the chosen to enter the Medium through Sburb, John's known within his game's lore as the HEIR OF BREATH, though it is unclear what this means at this time in canon.
Personality: John is pretty much a total goof and what you'd expect out of a 13-year-old kid. He doesn't take a lot of things seriously, and tends to get in debate about the quality of several horrible action movies that he likes. (Like Con Air, which is so sweet it's impossible to make John believe otherwise. Man so cool.) He can be kinda oblivious at times, and not really pick up on things right away. Regardless of that, he just tries to be a nice guy to everyone, even if they're not a nice guy to him.(See: Karkat) He tends to break out bad jokes and subtle irony (Though nowhere near the irony expert Dave is) to make his jokes. He's kinda passive and nerdy and tried to just be good overall, even if he tends to be the butt of his friends' jokes.
But even if he tries to be nice, John has quite the interest in all things prank or trickery related, as can be seen in his everyday life, some of his more recent talks with the trolls(Having managed to prank Karkat rather well on human anatomy, much to John's amusement), and his interest in being an AMATEUR MAGICIAN. His pranks tend to be silly or juvenile in nature, but always tend to be what could be considered 'friendly pranking'. That said, he is quite foolish and kinda gullible, and will readily believe most everything and trust people if they only say they mean well. (See: Terezi's 'help' below.)
Other things of note about John are that may or may not come up is that he is allergic to peanuts, he is left handed and he has a long time hatred of Betty Crocker and baked goods in general (This is mostly due to his father making an exorbitant amount of cakes for his birthdays to the point where John is sick of them.)
online, he types things out like this. no capitalization, but perfect grammar regardless. he... sometimes uses ellipses, and tends to be rather easy to read.
History: John lived a rather boring life for about thirteen years with his adoptive father, who turns out to be his half-brother when John finds out he is a paradox clone of his grandmother and his friend Jade's grandfather's DNA.
Okay wait, that was a bit complicated. Let's try and start at some sort of beginning so this makes some sort of sense.
John's life prior to his thirteenth birthday was rather shrouded in mystery. He's lived with his dad all his life, and through some forces, got online and started using Pesterchum (An IM service in the Homestuck universe) wherein he met Dave Strider, Rose Lalonde, and Jade Harley, who all became his best friends ever, to the point where he sent gifts to them on their 13th birthdays, before he had his. (He also got trolled a bit, but that doesn't become important until later.) To Jade, he sent pumpkin seeds(Which later ended up going even farther back in time and sparking Jade's agricultural interest). To Dave he sent these awesome rad authentic Ben Stiller shades which Dave has not taken off since and is wearing them in a highly ironic fashion. And to Rose he sent some knitting needles. All of these turned out to be important later. (Except Dave's shades, which were just awesome.)
On John's thirteenth birthday, he got the AUTHENTIC BUNNY FROM CON AIR(which becomes important later on) and he got the copy of Sburb he was waiting for - a game kinda like the Sims except with REAL PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. This opened up a whole can of worms afterwards, including METEORS. John procured Rose's help in playing, where she mostly had internet trouble and made a mess of his bathroom while he tried to escape death by meteors. He escaped through using the mechanics of Sburb(All of which are needlessly complicated and have been omitted to save time) so that he could eat an apple. An awesome apple that dumped him in the Medium.
Oh right. Yeah. Need to explain that. The Medium is more or less the starting location you get teleported to through the game of Sburb. At which point there are gates you must ascend through to fight your Denizen - this really big boss thing - and a whole bunch of other stuff. John was in a whole other reality. And he kinda freaked out a bit. But then he learned how the game worked.
And then he learned how alchemizing worked, and made a whole bunch of rad shit. And everyone agreed that WRINKLEFUCKER was an awesome name for a hammer. And he killed shit and finally got to the planet designed for him - the Land of Wind and Shale.
He mostly ran around there doing nonsense and not really knowing where he was going, aided and abetted by voices in his head while he killed shit and explored. Those voices were exiles from the future. No, really.
As he tried to figure that stuff out, he got trolled by Terezi, AKA gallowsCalibrator, who under the guise of helping him. fixed the code for a rocket pack that he half created by mashing buttons, presumably by giving it to Sollux to decode. She then told John to head straight to the seventh gate to kill his Denizen in his sleep. This failed miserably and got him killed.
...Or it would've had Dave not gone back in time from four months into the future and kept John from being killed like the gullible stooge he is. He still got the rocket pack though, and used it to zoom to his second gate - Rose's world. After which he explored around, finding a weird teleporter thing that transported him to a lab on an asteroid. Here he pushed buttons until he figured out that he and all his friends were 'Paradox Clones', clones of themselves spliced with DNA of their guardians (Who were also paradox clones of themselves). Him and Jade were paradox clone splicings of Jade's grandfather and John's grandmother, while Rose and Dave were paradox clone splicing of Rose's mother and Dave's older brother.
He then decided to re-enact a sequence from Con Air which would actually have major importance due to giving baby Rose THE AUTHENTIC BUNNY FROM CON AIR. Earlier, he had plucked from her room Rose's present for him - a LOVINGLY STITCHED UP BUNNY which would end up being Rose's bunny patched up with her knitting skills. He'd give this bunny to baby Jade, and this would be really important.
And then John fell asleep. This presumably was to wake up when Dream Jade slapped Dream John awake, but instead of waking up as his dream self... John woke up in the facility.
Roleplay Sample - Log:
John looked around the room. White.
White everywhere.
He looked around the room with a standard look of confusion on his face, wondering just in the name of Nicolas Cage was going on here. A bed. A dresser. A desk. A closet. Other than that. White. No windows. Just.. a white room.
John's first instinct was to be worried. Where was this? Where was Dave and Rose and Jade? But the half-day he had spent in Sburb's crazy world told him he had to think things through a little. He quickly opened up his sylladex, the Queuestack Arrays lining up.
Nothing. Not a single item there.
"Okay, this is cool, I'll just use my hammer and figure out what's going on."
He opened his strife portfolio. The HAMMERKIND and BUNNYKIND abstrati staring back at him as he looked for his trusty array of hammers.
Again. Nothing. Pogo Hammer? Wrinklefucker? Fear No Anvil!? All vanished.
As John examined himself, he realized other changes had been made too. These were his regular glasses - not the ones that he had turned into the SERIOUS BUSINESS GOGGLES, and he didn't have his GHOST GAUNTLETS. Furthermore, he was in his regular outfit - denim shorts and a t-shirt, with the green slime ghost imprinted on it.
...And a collar. What the heck was this collar doing here.
He quickly rushed to the closet, opening it up - the WISE GUY SLIME SUIT and the JUNIOR ECTOBIOLOGIST'S LAB SUIT were there, but his other items weren't.
Where was he?
Where'd all his sweet gear go?
Was this some other weird thing from Sburb? What was going on!?
At this point John had skipped through the "thinking rationally" stage and ran at the wall, yelling incomprehensibly. Running up and jumping off the wall. Doing a backflip as he landed. He charged at another of the seamlessly white walls, bouncing off of that one too, screaming.
He clutched his head in his hands as he tried to figure out what was going on... and then he looked over to the desk.
A communicator.
He grabbed it, trying to see if it had Pesterchum, when he couldn't find it, he pushed what buttons he could find until he opened up the main communication lines, quickly and furiously tapping on the keys.
Roleplay Sample - Journal:
man what is going on here, i'm totally reenacting this awesome scene from a movie, then i fall asleep and wake up here! all this white and everything, none of my cool stuff, nothing!
dave? rose? jade? anyone there? i could use some help figuring out where i am.
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.
I'm gonna be gone before Apps close, unfortunately. I'm leaving on Wednesday and not coming back until around the 7th of August roughly. I'll try to check in when I can but I'll be roughly without internet access for most of this trip. My apologies in advance.
