It's been a while since Hiroshi-kun started training with me for umbrakinesis and... martial arts. I think every time one bruise heals, several more appear. It's not as bad as it was at the beginning, but... ouch.

Well, there have been results: I can make smaller shadows disappear with no problem now. The bandages remain, I've grown used to them. ( Read more... )

He's beating you up as a way of teaching you martial arts? Really?

Well, not really beating me up, really... I'm just not fast enough to dodge most times sometimes.

I see... I suppose it teaches you how to dodge.

I thought I knew how before I started training with him, but I guess I was wrong. Though I have learned other things as well, even if I'm not very good at them yet.

Make sure he gives you a thorough grounding in the basics as well as teaching you how to dodge, Shiraishi-kun. And if you want to practice, do remember there are other people who can help you as well.

Of course. Basics are the most important with any talent... and I'll keep that in mind, yes.

Who knows, you might actually get to practice properly with someone else instead of just experiencing Chinen-kun's version of brotherly affection.

Well, I think training with others as well could bring out some new view on things, that's for sure.

It's called tough love, Rin~ I'm helping my dear aniki become the best he can be by not going easy on him~ He's actually doing pretty damn well all things considered. Maybe it's that perfection thing he talks about sometimes.

Is that how you were taught? That would explain a lot.

It's not how I was taught, no. But when you find out you're a son of a god and have to live with the idea of monsters constantly attacking you, you learn to update the things you learned from sensei. ...I kinda figured that was a given. The rest of us know that already.

I meant, were you taught by your sensei just giving you some 'tough love'? I'm not a fool, Chinen-kun, I know about adaptability.

Although, I have a theory that monsters don't like the ocean and so maybe I should spend my savings on buying a boat and just live on the ocean for the rest of my life to avoid them.

...Actually, yes. I was taught tough love from the beginning. So was Eishirou, though I'm sure that's not surprising either. Yes, that probably helped mold us both into who we are today, but I'm not upset about it. My adoptive father was there the entire time it happened up until his death as an assistant to sensei and he was pretty much the nicest guy in the fucking world, but I never once complained or asked for the training to stop. That's just how I am and I was fine with it.

...You're not familiar with Leviathans and their sorts, I take it?

I see.

Oh no, you caught me. I've been slacking off on my studies. And I never saw them in 19 years by the ocean. And I think I'm safer surrounded by an open body of water than being landbound.

The ocean is a big fucking place, Rin. A lot bigger than land, so of course land monsters are going to be more obvious. However, that doesn't mean you're not going to bump into them, especially with you being the son of the god of the sea. If I can bump into one, then so can you, and you probably have a bigger likelihood of doing so in the future.

Hun... I think you've forgotten that I control water, not just breathe underwater and swim really well. And I'm much more comfortable with controlling the ocean than controlling the water in my bathtub or in a bucket. Monsters in the ocean don't scare me.
