[Phoenix's comm clicks on just in time to catch a hiss of pain and muffled curse.]

Ouch! Mar damnit...

[There's a faint rustling of cloth and another soft hiss before Phoenix finally picks up his comm.]It occurs to me that I don't think I've heard anyone on this ship complain of coming down ill. Injured, drunk, inflicted with all manner of ( Read more... )

Not unless I get a virus, and my firewalls are pretty good I think.

[The word "firewalls" tips him off.]

You're another mechanical being?

You could say that. I think you know Ironhide? Big skulking guy who used to have canons? I'm Cybertronian, same as him.

Ahh. Yes, I'm well acquainted with Ironhide. A friend of his, are you? My name is Phoenix. And you?

Yup. Nice to meetcha. I'm Jazz.

The pleasure is mine, I assure you.

But you have me curious now. Has anyone tried to infect you with a virus since your arrival here? Or any of your Cybertronian comrades, to your knowledge?

Not to my knowledge. Ironhide I know has gotten injured before, but those were physical injuries, not viral. And the only way I'd get infected I can think of would be if I connected myself to the local network, and not just use these communicators.

Hmm. I wonder if there are any viruses on the network. Obviously there are hackers and those skilled with programming, but has anyone used their skills in that particular manner? Is it even possible?

Or is there some nebulous protection from "sickness" for your kind as well?

[He doesn't expect Jazz to know the answer, but it is an interesting thought.]

That does give me an idea...I haven't tried too hard to do any tinkering with the communicator or the network in general... It'll be an interesting experiment to do.

What do you mean by nebulous?

Oh? I might be interested in hearing those results.

I mean that it does not seem natural that there should be so little sickness, but as of this moment, I do not know why exactly that is.

[He gestures vaguely, though naturally Jazz won't be able to see.]

So the question is, is it a protection? Or were we all somehow wiped clean of any viruses or bacteria that we carried, making this a relatively sterile environment, but where we might still get sick?

I'll give it a try sometime soon then.

Hm....For Cybertronian, we don't really get sick in the sense organics do. There's viruses, but those are more in the nature of deliberate attacks, as in they have to be created for the sake of compromising us. If you want to know more about those kind of viruses, you should talk to Ratchet about it. He knows more.

What you are suggesting is possible, though it'll take a great deal of power. Perhaps both? Maybe through the food they provide is protection of sorts in addition of being wipe clean, as you say, when we are first brought here.

[Phoenix rubs his chin.]

An attack... If our good captain considered such as a punishable offense, that might explain the lack of viral attacks on yourself. On the other hand, no physical contact would have been made....

[He trails off, then shakes his head. The only way to know for certain would be to try it for himself, but that was beyond his ability. He'll just have to wait and see what happens if someone else attempts such an action.]

Power does not seem to be something Captain Redd lacks, but it would be a relatively simple affair to add something to the food. The catch would be making it indetectable should someone decide to test for any foreign substance.
