So, this is a ship. I don't know how it's possible, but I'm convinced enough to accept it - for now, at least. With that being the case, may I request to speak with the captain in regards to our destination? I need to return to Aeropa. It... wouldn't be good for me to be gone for too long ( Read more... )

you can take the pirate out of the sky, going to get off this ship, checking the clouds for storms, paging captain redd, not my ship

I know you did. But I would like to try diplomacy first.

Yeah whatever. Have fun.

"Fun" isn't the term that I'd use.

You know, for a soldier you sure don't have a good idea of what's proper and what isn't. Shouldn't you talk to the Captain in person instead of ringing him up on this stupid thing?

[Phoenix flushes. Lecturing him on etiquette is one of the best ways to get under his skin.

Unfortunately, Bass is right.

Mouth twisting with a grimace, Phoenix folds his arms.]

I'm not exactly a soldier.

[Only he is, really. That just isn't all that he is. But he doesn't want to go into that, so he'll just change the subject.]

You said his cabin is in this Carnival? On deck 4?

[He's moving already. Bass has a point. Face to face would be better.]

Indeed it is.

Need an escort?

You sound as though you know the lay of the land fairly well around here. That would be appreciated, yes.

I'm already headed to deck 4. Shall I meet you there?

[Phoenix heads for the elevator, easily able to backtrack his steps. Once he gets on, he punches the button for deck 4. Up, up, up...]

[The elevator stops at Deck 5. A young man with short dreadlocks steps in after giving a curt nod, and promptly does a doubletake. The kid looks so much like Phoenix...]

Are you... Phoenix?

[Hey, if Damas aged down, maybe the Aeropan did, too.]

[Damas' nod is returned with a polite one from Phoenix, but when the man says his name, he blinks, startled, and turns to look at the man. He... doesn't recognize him. At all.]

Yes. How do you know my name?

[And the younger elf hasn't retained his memory, either.]

We've met on the boat before. I am Damas.

[Phoenix frowns, rubbing his head where it had connected with the ground after he'd fallen from that zoomer.]

Ah. My apologies, but... I don't remember you.

[He shrugs with vague embarrassment.]

I took a bad fall and seem to have forgotten a lot of things. It's a pleasure to meet you... again?

I am not surprised you do not remember me, I am generally much older than this.

[He doesn't tack on the "as are you" that floats around in the back of his mind.]

Where are you headed?

[He... doesn't even understand that comment. What?

Fortunately, Damas asked a question, easily distracting Phoenix.]

I'm going to speak with the captain of this ship. He's on deck 4, as I understand.
