[Phoenix's voice comes on for the first time in well over two weeks. He sounds calm, vaguely curious, but definitely paying attention to the comm.]

If you had to catch a bird in flight, how would you go about doing so?

[His voice hardens.]

Maia.

Use a net.

[So helpful.]

[Yeah, screw you, too, Torn.]

But how do you get the bird to come down to you?

No need. Use a light enough net, set it high enough, and it'll never see it and fly right in.

[Best friends~]

You're assuming you can set it above its flight.

[Now Phoenix is just being difficult. Just for you, Torn. ♥]

You're assuming you can't.

[He'll see your difficult and raise you a logic.]

Alright, then. Bird's gotta sleep somewhere. Set the net near the nest.

[Hmm. Now there's a thought...

Not that he'll admit to Torn that Torn gave him any ideas.]

Ahh, but this bird has a very sharp beak and claws. How do you keep it from shredding through your trap? Or from biting you, for that matter?

Try not touching it if you don't want to get bitten.

[But, hm...]

Don't use a cloth net. Use wire. Mesh.

Assuming it can be helped, of course.

[...Torn is actually being somewhat helpful. Phoenix frowns. That's not what he's used to from Torn.]

[Pointedly-] It's a large bird. Where would you get a net like that that would be of sufficient size?

[Give the man a problem to solve or a project to work on and he's happy.]

How large exactly?

[Give him information, Phoenix.]

Hmm... Perhaps the size of a car.

[Phoenix's voice drops the hypothetical tone.]

Closer to the size of a woman.

Big bird.

[Now Phoenix has Torn's interest.]

The size of a woman. Any woman in particular?

And thus you see my problem.

[Locked to Torn - 70% unhackable]

That depends. Are there any particular women you do not think highly of on this ship?

[Cautious Phoenix is cautious.]

There's some I like less than others, yeah.

[Cautious Torn is cautious.]

I can think of one in particular, though. You might have had an issue with her recently. The bird in question her size?

[How would Torn know about-

Ah. The post that Maia made from his comm that Phoenix had discovered when he got his comm back. Anyone would have been able to see that, and it wouldn't be difficult to put two and two together and make a logical guess.]

That would be a good estimate, yes.

[This is Torn we're talking about. The man's hobby is putting two and two together. That and hacking posts.

...Guy needs a new hobby.]

You wanna catch a bird that size, you're gonna need more than a net. You'll have to trap it somehow. Lure it in.

You know what it likes?

...

[What does Maia like? Harassing Phoenix. Taking his things. And...]

Bait that I don't want to speak about over the comm.

[He also wants to get a better measure of the man he's speaking to. This Torn is somewhat different from the one he knew before.]

How familiar are you with the ship's layout, Torn?
