[His hair lashes the air behind him like a whip, and with his goggles lowered to protect his eyes, his bangs fly around his face. A wall comes up and he banks hard to the right, very narrowly avoiding plowing into it.

It just isn't the same. He should have been able to pull up and shoot toward ceiling. He should have been able to fly over those ( Read more... )

Don't mind him he's gonna be a bit of a creeper. blitzmeister December 9 2009, 07:12:33 UTC
[Blitz had decided to work off some steam through a few rounds on the track - it had been a while since he'd felt the need to, and the familiar is always calming.

When he saw someone already did it wasn't too much a problem; he could run another course so long as it was the same difficulty level. But when the zoomer rushed by the driver looked... like Razer. And Razer on a zoomer did not compute.

He decided to wait for when he was done to question him. Blitz would have a good laugh if it turned out that Erol had convinced him of the merits of zoomers over real cars.]

When is he not~? ecopiracy December 9 2009, 14:08:36 UTC
[This time Phoenix doesn't notice his audience before pulling to a stop at the finish line. He's not done yet, not by a long shot, but he knows better than to race too long without taking a break. If nothing else, he needs a drink of water.

Pushing up his goggles, he wipes away the sweat that had collected around the edges - then stops when he realizes that he isn't alone. He lifts an eyebrow. Another unfamiliar but very Precurian face.]

Can I help you?

[That accent isn't Razer's, Blitz. Not even remotely like it.]

[And it is freaking him out because that is not Razer but it LOOKS like Razer, or at least Razer when he was younger. Damn if they're not related. Blitz is forever going to think he's tapped that when he sees this guy.]

Ahh, just came in to check on state of the sign up sheet for the tournament when I saw someone on the track. Good to see a familiar face.

[He means familiar in more than one way.]

I'm G.T. Blitz, by the way. We've talked over the network, I believe, but always nice to meet in person, yes?

[Blitz's voice is a memorable one, and it doesn't take Phoenix to remember him. His expression lightens as recognition dawns.]

Ah yes. You're one of the people organizing the tournament, too, I believe.

[But Blitz's comment earns him a strange look.]

How is my face familiar?

Just another face from home, is all. What with most of the boat population having those short round things, Precurian features stand out. But if what I remember is correct, you're from all the way out there, hm?

[He makes a shooing motion with a hand to represent distance. He's not going to be caught making a mistake of person like that.

Getting some practising in, I see.

Ahh.

[A fair enough explanation, and enough for Phoenix to believe that nothing else was meant.]

Yes, I come from the Brink.

[He nods toward the track, then pats one of his handlebars.]

Zoomers and cars are incredibly impractical there - almost nonexistent - but aircraft do not seem to be an option here, so if I am to participate, I need to become acquainted with one of the available vehicles. Zoomers can fly, though in a limited fashion, so I believe they will be my vehicle of choice.

[He glances curiously at Blitz.]

Do you intend to race?

Ah, I get a kick enough out of covering it. I'd sign up to flesh out the numbers some, but I'm still hoping to get some more participants. Maybe a later time, once the shows garnered some more interest, I'll race; but for now it's the screen and spotlight for me.

[It's probably the closest to the truth he's ever come to telling someone else on the ship other than Razer.]

[The answer implies that Blitz can at least race, though there's no hint of how good he is. Phoenix contemplates pursuing that line of questioning, then decides to shelve it for the time being. He really should get that drink of water, then get back to practicing for the upcoming tournament.

Speaking of which...]

Do you know yet when the races are likely to be held?

Not quite yet. Apparently there's some big event planned that takes prescedence, so I'm to wait until that's over. Shouldn't be too long afterwards, though.

[He takes a thoughtful look at the track. He wants this tournament to happen right now but playing nice with the crew means he'll have to wait. Oh well.]

Forgive my ignorance, but you would be... Phoenix, yes? [It's the only Precurian name he didn't have a face to go with, so it makes sense.]

[Phoenix had assumed that Blitz already knew his name, given the way he'd mentioned their earlier conversation. Still, that doesn't stop him from offering hasty apologies.]

Ah, my apologies for not introducing myself properly. Yes, I'm Captain Phoenix of the Phantom Blade.

If you don't mind my curiosity, what exactly is this big event? Do you know?

[Oh ho ho, a Captain.]

Ahh, some sort of holiday or festivities or whatnot? I don't know the full details, but I've been assured by the crew that once it's over I can get my tournament going full swing.

A holiday, is it? I suppose that's understandable. You'd have fewer participants and viewers, I'm sure, if you had to compete for attention with something that's already set in place.

I shall keep my ear out for announcements, then, and continue practicing in the mean time.
