[Phoenix blinks, then frowns as the importance of the question hits. After a moment, though, he barks a laugh.]

No. Thankfully, I have not misplaced anything else. I simply do not remember where or when I took my goggles off. Somewhere between Sergei's and deck five is most likely.

[The mention of Sergei's should clue Damas in well enough.]

You have not seen them, have you?

Ah. Good, I must admit I had my fears... but I have not seen them. My apologies.

[He'll mention nothing of Sergei's, though. For now.]

There's a certain amount of dry amusement in Phoenix's voice when he answers.]

Do you really think I make a habit of getting myself killed?

I am not certain what to expect with you, Phoenix.

[As you do not have his son's regenerative powers...]

[No, Phoenix swings to the other end of the spectrum, Damas. He doesn't deliberately place himself in danger without a good reason, but when he does, he can be almost suicidally determined.

Unfortunately, this is starting to touch on a subject that is still sensitive to Phoenix. He looks away from his communicator, and his voice is quiet.]

And some men lose what they value without the chance to fight for it.

[You've struck a chord, Phoenix. Damas doesn't reply for a good long moment, lost in thoughts of his own shattered family.]

[Phoenix takes a deep breath, then lets it out slowly. Somehow, he isn't surprised that Damas understands. Shaking his head, he steels the emotions away and focuses back on the conversation itself - though perhaps a change of topic would be appropriate now.]

How long have you been here, Damas?

[A long pause as Damas calculates.]

...Six months to the day. And you?

[He's quiet for a moment as the implications of that sink in.]

Long enough on both our counts that we have likely been replaced in the positions we held. If that is the case...

[A note of curiosity enters his voice.]

What would you do should you find a way to return to our world?

...I'm not certain what I would do. I still have my war to fight, and I am still very much a man of the sky, so part of me wants to do the same and reclaim my place with my crew.
