It isn't a name I would say befits a woman like her.
[Phoenix takes a moment to think back on the relationship he has with Odette, then smiles as he recalls their kiss.]
Yes, I'd say we're quite close. In fact, I would say the relationship I have with her matches no other woman on this ship.
[It isn't a lie, but it is somewhat misleading. After all, the same could be said of almost every relationship he's had. No two relationships are ever quite the same.
Still, he gets the impression that this Cale has a personal interest in the answer. Why else would he be asking? Phoenix can't resist the impulse to tweak him a little. It should be interesting to see how Cale responds.]

Hey, if it doesn't bother her, there's no harm done. Just because she's some princess doesn't mean I should be expected to be formal. The last monarchy went extinct a couple of centuries ago.
[Unfortunately this forces Cale to conclude that maybe, just maybe, Odette has been leading him on. Which is... really, really typical. He should have seen this coming.]

Manners should never go extinct, Cale Tucker, no matter the state of the government.
[What, Cale? Not even willing to rise to the bait? Hmm. Either he isn't a would-be suitor at all, or his interest is too new or too little to hold out against the first obstacle.]
You do not need to take my word, of course. Odette is more than capable of confirming her feelings herself.
[Another true but somewhat misleading statement. Either Cale will take that as confidence that Odette does have feelings for Phoenix...
Or the young man might actually do as Phoenix suggests - in which case Phoenix may very well have earned himself a rival. Hmm.

Even when it doesn't exist? I'll stick with Odie. She's not a pushover, if it bothered her, she would have told me.
[This guy is right about one thing. Odette can confirm it. Which means Cale is just going to have to ask her straight out what her relationship with Phoenix is.]
Of course she is. Probably best I just ask her myself, right?

Perhaps especially when it doesn't exist. You may wish to ask her about how she feels about that name as well. She may not have made her true feelings known to you because she does believe in manners.
You're Phoenix, right?

Yes, I am. And you are?
[And why are you responding to this post?]

How exactly do you know Odie?

[Phoenix's tone is amiable enough. There is a slight pause before his next response, though.]
My apologies, but there is no one I know by that name.

We're friends. [Are they friends? Eh, probably.]
Reply
That may be, but I still have no idea who this "Odie" is, or why you would think that I know them.

Odie. Odette. Princess, blond hair. Not too tall.
Reply
Odie. That is what you call her?
[Can you hear what Phoenix thinks of your choice of nicknames, Cale?]
Odette and I have been friends for several months as well. We met shortly after she first arrived.
Why?
Reply
Several months, huh. [Well damn. Cale has barely known her for two weeks.] So you two are pretty close then.

Well. Let him try.]

But by all means, have a good heart to heart.
[Now it all depends on what exactly Odette says.]
