[Phoenix's comm turns on with a clattering of pots and pans.]
Augh. Mar damn it...
[More metallic clanking, but more controlled this time.]
Right, then. Let's see... Which of these...?
[His voice grows fainter, as though he's stepped farther away from his comm, but if anyone is really paying attention, they might hear him muttering about cups.]
they never prepared him for this,
at least he's not peeling potatoes,
uncharted depths,
this isn't what he's used to,
take you down any way i can,
he never did like the kitchen

...Hey, uh, Phoenix. What--what's up?

Ah, Herz! Just the man I'd like to speak to. What's the standard size of a spoon you use for tea?
Reply
Oh--uh--
Wait, I--I don't--
What're you-w-what're you doing?
Reply
So tell me, what size teaspoon do you use?
Reply
I'm not--
I-It'd be better if I just--if I showed you. I think.
[Him? Explaining things? Verbally?
Are you nuts?]

[When Herz arrives, he'll find Phoenix in the kitchen, as promised, with several pots and pans out and on a counter - probably the same ones he knocked off earlier. There's a bowl on the counter next to the stove, several different sizes of spoons (not measuring spoons, but spoons) arrayed to the side, a flour-dusted drinking glass, as well as the ingredients for waffles.
And there's a frying pan on the stove that looks to be buttered and ready to go. In fact, the butter is starting to burn.]

He...really has to keep himself from face palming.]
Hey. You, uh, y-you having some trouble with the recipe?
Reply
[It also doesn't help that he doesn't know what a waffle iron looks like, but a frying pan should do just as well. Right?]
Reply
Yeah, lemme--
Hold on.
[Herz starts going through drawers, pulling out measuring utensils as he goes. On his jot around the kitchen, he finally notices the pan, or rather, the sound and smell coming from the pan. With a curse, he turns off the heat and moves it to different, cooler burner.]
Uh, first--first rule. Don't leave something on unattended. And--a-and you don't want it on until you have everything ready.

It was not unattended, and I was under the impression that it needed time to heat up.
[He moves closer and picks up one of the cups, noticing that the handle is marked. It's written in English, though, and isn't self-translating like the recipe book he has. The same goes for the spoons, which are themselves a somewhat odd shape, more like a scoop than something he'd want to eat with.]
So there are standard sizes...
[Another frown.]
Does this mean starting over, or can the milk, flour, and oil be salvaged if I show you how much I used?
