Kir had woken up in one of the apartments, ironically enough. But he hadn't stayed there for long, leaving quickly when he realized how much air space he had to fly. It was great! It made him happy, giving him some new energy in his otherwise weary body. He'd flown around the place for awhile until he'd heard from Jing, finally looping back to the bank. He spotted his partner leaving the bank and swooped down to greet him.

"Oi," He greeted. "How is your back?"

Jing was glad to have Kir's familiar voice greet him. "I'll live," he said, and then wondered if that was a bad phrase to use. He knew people had died in the attack, even if he wasn't sure exactly who yet. People were still too disoriented and lost to accurately tally who was present. All he knew was that he had heard from those closest to him and after that, he would begin seeking out others he knew.

"This place is really something..." he said. "We're supposed to meet Cassis at the fountain."

Kir settled on Jing's uninjured shoulder with a small huff at his words. He glanced at the wound from where he sat. He supposed it didn't look all that bad after all, but it still needed to be treated. At Jing's statement he brightened.

"I like it! There's more room and I have more space to fly around. Plus I can go higher than before before I get zapped." He paused and then said, "Oh, well, we're practically right next to it. Do we know where Aligoté is?"

"Apparently he told Cassis he's in a tree," Jing said, noting that Kir seemed genuinely concerned about the welfare of his counterpart. "I don't know how big the park is, though. Hopefully we'll find him without too much trouble."

Sure enough, he spotted Cassis ahead, standing near the fountain. His pace quickened, and when he reached her, Jing pulled her into a tight embrace. Despite his light-hearted communications over the messengers, this was his assurance that she was really safe.

"Cassu..."

After leaving Aligoté and Sherry at the clinic, once they ascertained that someone would be able to help them, the tired group made their way to the apartment building that Cassis had pointed out. After a year, his mind automatically counted the second door inside on the left, and then he shook his head, realizing this wasn't Ast-Tessera. But was it? The hallway seemed to be laid out the same way.

Deciding he was too tired to care, he pushed open the door. The room was covered in the same debris and dirtiness of the rest of the new compound, but it was empty and seemed more or less intact aside from a few cracks in the walls. Nothing more than their previous room had suffered, that was certain.

"I guess this'll do," he said, rubbing his eyes tiredly. He was certain he'd fall asleep anywhere at the moment.

"Anywhere will do," Kir sighed, suddenly seeming equally as tired.

However Cassis took Jing's arm with a small shake of her head. "Let me help your wound first. Then you can sleep."

Jing gave a token whine of protest, but knew that Cassis wouldn't take no for an answer. Reluctantly he removed his shirt, somewhat stiffly as the burns on his back rubbed painfully against the material. It was one long burn, starting from just below one shoulder blade and arcing down to the small of his back. It seemed raw and was red, and there were smaller burns on both sides of it that were less serious. Because it had been cauterized on impact, there was very little blood, but it was perhaps a more serious wound than Jing had been alluding. Nothing life-threatening or permanently debilitating, but quite a bit more than the "little singe" he'd been telling people.

Cassis looked startled to see the wound, not expecting it to be as bad as that because of what he said. Then she scowled at him. "Jing! You should've gotten this looked at right away!"

Kir took Cassis' angry tone as a cue to flee from his shoulder. He retreated to a safer distance. "I think he disappeared before he had the chance," Kir replied in Jing's defense. "He was in the first group."

Cassis sighed, exasperated. She should've known better when he had told her it was no big deal. "Excuses, excuses." She shooed Jing toward the bed. "Lie down. I can clean the wound at least."
