When the Warden gave his warning, Cissie tensed, whatever she was going to say forgotten as they listened to what he had to say. She glanced up at Tim and locked eyes with him as a knot formed in the pit of her stomach. They only had ten minutes? She pushed back the rising dread and as soon as the broadcast stopped, she swallowed and moved to sit up. "I'll get the duct tape."

Tim nodded and gripped her hand. "It's going to be okay, Cissie. We have enough time to do this. I'll take the bedrooms."

She nodded, squeezing his hand back and leaning in for a quick kiss. "I know," she said, sounding more confident than she felt. "I'll get the main room and the vents."

"Thanks." He pushed himself up. "Soonest begun..." He went into his belt to pull out the small roll of tape there. It would be plenty to take care of the window frames. "Let me know if you need help?" he asked Cissie. He was trying to stay calm--to be Robin for at least this. He dealt with emergencies much better that way.

Cissie nodded, grabbing the roll of silver duct tape from the closet on her way out. "I will," she promised. "If you need tape, yell." She headed for the main room, going straight for the windows to seal them shut. She focused on the task at hand to keep herself calm and to avoid looking out at the approaching storm. She was proud that her hands only shook a little. There were fewer windows out here than in the bedrooms, so she went to work on the vents, putting multiple layers of tape over them just to be safe.

Tim taped the windows as efficiently as possible, trying not to sacrifice effectiveness for speed. They needed the apartment to be as sealed as possible to stay safe, and that was what this effort was all about, anyway. How much time did they have left? He didn't want to think about it. Should they seal the door? Will they need the rebreathers?

Cissie finished taping the last of the vents and did her best not to look out the window or at a clock. Instead, she glanced around the main room, wondering if there was anything else they should tape up. "Tim?" she called. "What do you think about the door?" They might be safe--they were on the third floor, after all, but who knew if the hallway was secure enough?

Tim frowned. "I was wondering that, too," he called back. "It can't hurt, but--let's wait until it's a little closer to time. I don't want to leave anyone stranded if we can save them."

Cissie nodded and headed back to the bedrooms, chewing on her lip. "Need any help?"

"I've got it just about covered." He put the last piece of tape in place. "And--I have a rebreather for you. In case our taping didn't work."

She took a deep breath and nodded. "Thanks," she said tensely. "How much longer should we wait before taping up the door?"

"As long as possible," Tim said with a frown. "I can stay out here and wait, if you'd like to stay in the bedroom."

She shook her head quickly, gripping the duct tape even tighter. "No, it's--I'll stay." She took a breath. "Two of us can work faster."

"You're sure?" Tim asked hesitantly. "I don't want to see something happen to you."

She nodded, setting her jaw. "I'm staying with you."

Tim smiled a little and nodded. "Okay. About how much time do we have left?"

Cissie glanced at her watch, chewing on her lip. "About... three minutes, I think?"

Tim frowned deeply. "Damn. I think... it wouldn't be a bad idea to start taping it now."

She nodded and crossed the room to come help him. Between the two of them, they sealed the edges of the door as securely as they could with the tape, repeating what they had done to the windows. Cissie used the last of her duct tape, securing a third layer over the gap at the bottom of the door. She pushed her hair out of her face and glanced up at Tim. "I'm out of tape, but I think it's done."

Tim nodded. "It's as good as it's going to get." He gave her a wry smile. "So... guess it's just us for the next day. In our hermetically sealed apartment. What a mess."

She managed a small smile in return before getting up from where she knelt in front of the door. "Yeah." She wrapped her arms around her middle, trying not to look out the window. She wasn't sure she wanted to see the storm hit, but she didn't know what else to do with herself either. What if they hadn't sealed everything enough? Would they even know before it was too late?

Tim put an arm around her waist and tugged her against him. "Do you want to go wait it out as we were before?"

Cissie leaned into him, hugging him tightly. She nodded against his shoulder, squeezing her eyes shut while she collected herself. "Yeah. That sounds like a good plan."

Tim guided her toward the bedroom, letting her lean against him as they walked. "Cuddling in bed sounds like so much more fun than waiting for a cloud of death to wash through, doesn't it?"

She gave a strangled laugh, releasing some of the tension she was feeling. "It definitely does," she agreed, clenching his shirt in her fist as they headed into the bedroom.

Tim smiled and pushed Cissie gently toward her bed, before crossing to his belt to pull out the two rebreathers. He gave her a wry smile and set them on the night table. "Just in case."

Cissie climbed onto the bed, wrapping her arms around her knees while she watched him. She returned his smile and held a hand out to tug him closer. "Hopefully we won't need them."

Tim nodded and sat down on the bed next to her. "We're going to be fine," he told her quietly.

She curled up against him, sighing. "I hope so..." she murmured. She really wanted to believe him, but she couldn't help thinking that even if they survived this storm, whatever was coming next was going to be worse.
