Dueling didn't seem to be as common a practice in Econtra as it was at home, and so upon seeing a challenge, Siegfried had been quick to accept. So far Siegfried's dueling hadn't gone as well as he was accustomed. He'd only won a single duel since his arrival.

As Siegfried approached the dueling field, he hoped to change that luck.

Johan had taken a brief break after the duel with Saioh, to catch his breath even more and relax from the intensity of how close that had been. He didn't expect the others to be any less impressive and close, either.

He noticed a pink haired man on the field as he headed back, and came closer. "Seigfried von Schroider?" It had to be; he'd already dueled Saioh and he knew what Kaiba Seto looked like, at least in his world, and pink hair was not involved.

This, Siegfried realized, must be the young man who'd laid down the dueling challenge. He didn't look particularly impressive to Siegfried, but looks could be quite deceiving. And, whatever Johan's appearance, Siegfried couldn't help but noticed that he carried himself with the confidence of a competent duelist.

"Ja," Siegfried said in answer to the question.

Johan had seen enough variations in duelists during his years in his world to know one when he saw one. Siegfried was definitely one, even if he hadn't had the duel disk to prove it.

"Johan Andersen. I'm ready to duel whenever you are." Again that thrill shot through him. This was what he lived for! At last, he was again taking steps towards his ultimate goal, even if these duels wouldn't count in his world. The practice alone would, however.

That was all Siegfried needed to hear. He slipped his duel disk onto his arm and shoved his deck into the slot. He hoped to make this a duel Johan would remember. "Then let us duel!"

Johan activated his own duel disk and drew his first hand. "I'll take the first turn this time!" he declared, drawing a sixth card. Things looked good to start with. "I'll summon Topaz Tiger," he did so, setting it in attack mode, "and set one card face-down. That's it for my turn." Now he waited to see what Siegfried would do.

Siegfried eyed the tiger with interest. It was one he'd never heard even a whisper of, which meant it likely to be one from the future. It was a beautiful creature, and Siegfried expected that its design was purely Pegasus's work.

But the time for admiring was not now. Siegfried drew and nodded to himself. "I shall start by summoning Valkyrie Dritte (1000/1600) in attack," Siegfried announced. He played the card and his Valkyrie astride her horse appeared on the field. "And then I shall set one card face down and end my turn."

Johan suspected that the face-down card would probably be something to stop the attack. That was fine with him; he would not mind testing Siegfried's defenses to get a glimpse of his playing style.

He drew his card for the turn and considered briefly. This might be worth trying.

"All right, Topaz Tiger! Attack Valkyrie Dritte!" Now he would see just what Siegfried had planned. He hoped it would be good.

It was an attack that never struck. Siegfried activated his trap and the tiger slammed into a Draining Shield. Not only was the attack stopped, but Siegfried's life points jumped from 4000 to 6000.

Siegfried couldn't resist giving Johan a cocky smile. "Why thank you."

Perhaps surprisingly, perhaps not, Johan answered that with a grin of his own. Good. Someone who was definitely going to give him a good fight.

"You're welcome. Now, I set one card face-down and end my turn." He wasn't going to tie himself to any one strategy, not so early, but he liked to plan ahead as well. It was what any good duelist would do.

Siegfried drew and kept his expression neutral as he studied his hand. He was actually quite pleased with his current draw, and it was time to make a move.

"I shall play the spell card Swan Maiden," Siegfried announced. "This allows me to special summon a Valkyrie from my hand to the field!"

Johan was ready for just that. "Trap card, open! Induced Summon! When a monster is Special Summoned to the field, both of us can Special Summon a level four or lower monster from our hands."

He set Sapphire Pegasus on the duel disk, watching as the proud creature stomped one hoof and glared defiantly at the enemy. Leave this to me, Johan!

He knew he could: his deck would prove itself, as he was.

Siegfried didn't have any four star or lower monsters in his hand at the moment, but he could still bring out the monster he'd planned to summon. Although before he did, he took another admiring look at Johan's creatures. He did have a soft spot for a Pegasus, so how could he not help admiring this one. Particularly since it had likely been designed by the Pegasus he had a soft spot for.

"I would like you to say hello to Valkyrie Zwei and then Auf Wiedersehen to your tiger thanks to Zwei's special effect."

Johan could not help but grin some. "Oh, I don't know. My monsters don't go away that easily." And even as Topaz Tiger burst into sparkles of light...the light formed itself into a glittering gem in the spell and trap zone.

That was certainly unepected. Siegfried did his best to cover his surprise, and thus only a slight widening of his eyes gave the emotion away. For now it seemed like the gem would just sit there and look pretty, but Siegfried expected that it would likely have another use later on.

But Siegfried would worry about that later. Right now he had a turn to finish. Since leaving Johan wide open didn't work, Siegfried would change tactics. "I shall sacrifice Valkyrie Dritte to summon the Fortune Chariot!"

Dritte vanished from the field, and an unmanned chariot swooped down from the sky. Zwei leaped off of her horse and into the chariot. "By reducing my Valkyrie's attack by half, she may now attack your life points directly. Zwei, attack!"

Indeed, Johan's gems had more uses than just looking attractive. He swore to himself briefly; he should have set out Last Resort, to be able to use Rainbow Ruins. But it wasn't enough to really get upset about at the moment. He took a step or two back at the strike, which was only eight hundred, and grinned.

"Not a bad move." He would have to return it, once he got Amethyst Cat out there.
