Summary: After a bit of a false start, this relationship may actually be getting somewhere!

It may have been a new apartment, but once Aligoté got his kitchen things set up and got to work on dinner, it soon smelled just as good as the old one. Thankfully someone had lived in Ci-Okto at some point, so it wasn't dilapidated, merely empty. He'd spent the first few hours just dusting and airing out the rooms, which still had that "old" smell but at least weren't musty. The meager possessions they'd brought over from Vri-Pente were placed as best as he could, and still Maria had not come back from the meeting.
It would be strange not having Relena and Wufei live with them anymore, he reflected. The regal diplomat and the oft-absent pilot were unusual but not unwelcome company. Standing at the window and looking down on the street, watching the usual assortment of residents wandering around, Aligoté thought if he didn't know better he'd almost think this was a real city, and that there was no war, and that they were just living for living.
"If it makes you uncomfortable, I could stay in another apartment...?"
How ironic. It would have been her moving to another apartment that would've made him uncomfortable. He'd like their arrangement in Vri-Pente, and silently scowled at the Warden for upsetting things, although granted he'd prefer a temporary eviction to more Entropi attacks.
After a while he knew he should start the meal or it wouldn't be ready, and settled on a simple vegetable and noodle soup for the main course, and while that simmered, prepared a ginger and pumpkin pie as promised. He hoped the meeting was going well and thought it might make up for their earlier uncomfortable conversation if he had good food ready for her to relax to.
