Fayt snuck behind her and covered Aerith's eyes with his hands. "Guess," he teased, although he wasn't even bothering to disguise his voice. He wasn't feeling particularly joyous, but it was his wife's birthday and he wasn't about to ruin it. Besides, here was the one person who kept him alive after all that he's gone through. She deserved that much.

Aerith laughed and put her hands over Fayt's. "I don't know, Vincent?" she said, jokingly.

"Who's that? I'm hurt." Fayt caught the joke, and was laughing lightly. He moved his hands to her waist, drawing her against him. "And how is Mrs. Leingod today?"

Aerith leaned back against Fayt, smiling. "Vincent was someone I knew at home is all," she said. "I'm feeling quite old, actually. Being 23 and all," she leaned up on her toes to kiss him on the cheek. "I missed you," she said softly.

"I missed you, too," Fayt said, smiling as he held her there, just breathing in her warmth and enjoying her company. By now the lights had fully turned on, and the fact that he had an apron around him couldn't be missed.

"And, yeah, happy birthday. For starters, let's have dinner. The rest of the presents can wait."

Aerith smiled up at her husband, enjoying the quiet moment with him. "Nice apron," she teased. Taking him by the hand, she waited for him to lead her farther into the apartment.

"I have a matching one for you," he teased right back, holding her hand in his and leading her into the dining room, where he'd prepared a sumptuous meal for both of them.

"Oh, hang on a second." Fayt sketched a symbol in the air, and the candles he'd set on the table lit up. He smiled down at her, looking lovingly into her eyes. "Happy birthday, princess."

Aerith laughed, squeezing his hand. "I'm sure it looks better on you though," she said. She looked at the table and gasped. "Oh Fayt," she said, looking lovingly back into his eyes. She leaned up on her tiptoes and kissed him gently on the cheek. "Thank you."

"I aim to please, milady," Fayt said in return, bowing. With a soft chuckle, he then moved over to usher Aerith into her seat, before excusing himself so he could get the champagne.

Everything was going well, so far. Which was good. He really didn't want to screw things up, not after all that they've had to go through in the recent weeks. He was going to make this night special, because Aerith was special. And he loved her, more than he had words for.

Aerith laughed, and followed him with her eyes, full of love. Everything about her feelings for Fayt was so much deeper than she could even understand herself, so much more fulfilling than she thought anything could ever be. "Well you do a wonderful job," she said, half teasing.

Fayt was grinning when he returned; he had two glasses of champagne on a tray, and set them down on the table almost as expertly as a waiter. He held one to Aerith before taking the other, holding the glass up and saying, "A toast, to the future... and to the best wife anyone could ever have."

Aerith laughed, and smiled back as she held up her glass. "To the future," she said, obviously planning something, her eyes twinkling. Taking a small sip of her champagne, she looked at her husband carefully. "To the best husband, in any universe," she said, offering a toast up to him.

"You really know how to embarrass me," Fayt said with a laugh, holding up his glass. "Cheers. Let's enjoy the night, shall we?"

"Of course," a dangerous twinkle gleamed in her eyes. This could not bode well.
