Out of habit, Cissie checked before opening the door, but she recognized Helena's voice and accent and opened the door for her. "Hi," she said, happy and relieved to see that her friend was all right. "Come on in."

Helena stepped into the room, rubbing her hands together in a small attempt to warm her fingers. She brushed her thin black hair out her face and over her shoulders and turned to face Cissie. It seemed like forever since she had last seen her.

She smiled towards her, "How have you been, Cissie? It's been so long. I'm really sorry I haven't tried to get a hold of you sooner... I've been a bit busy..."

Helena knew that was no excuse but she had no other reason than that.

Cissie reached over and pulled Helena into a quick hug before leading her toward the kitchen. "The kitchen's warmer and I've got some water on for tea," she explained with a smile. "I'm all right. I mean--before everything went to Hell and the thing with the Warden, things were good. Quiet, but--relatively good. How're you? Where were you when the Keepers went nuts?"

"Oh you have tea! Wonderful! I've missed tea." Helena hugged Cissie back and followed her into the kitchen.

"I know what you mean... Bit, then again, nothing has really been normal or quieted down since I got here. I suppose it could be worse, though." Helena looked around in thought.

"I was at The Joker's "trial" when the Keepers came out... After -that- when to pieces I staid in hiding at the Church for a bit. I couldn't go outside. I was outside for a brief time when the Warden was on the rampage but but other than that I've been trying to lay low."

"What about you? What were you doing?"

Cissie poured hot water into two mugs, bringing them, a jar of honey and the basket of tea bags to the table for Helena to choose from. She hummed a little, sitting down and taking a bag of lemon tea for herself. "It could, I suppose. I sort of... wasn't myself for a while. I basically locked myself in the apartment until just after New Year's, and it was--good." She blushed slightly, thinking of those days spent with Tim around New Year's--they had been really good days. "Tim and I spent some quality time together," she said, managing not to turn too red ( ... )

Helena searched through the basket of tea and grabbed for the bag of Lady Grey. Helena listened intently as Cissie related her past month to her. She blushed, laughing to herself, at the mention of her and Tim. She felt a little weird and awkward actually hearing about it from her but she was glad that it at least kept her indoors and safe.

Helena had been worried but she now realized that Cissie had been in good hands this whole time. "I'm glad you managed to stay safely inside. And no, I wasn't hurt. Not by the warden anyway."

Helena subconsciously rubbed her slightly bruised wrist and went back to making her tea.

Cissie eyed her narrowly, catching the "anyway" and the way she rubbed her wrist. "Not by the Warden? Does that mean by someone else?"

Helena stared at Cissie. Not a good time. "Nothing really."

Helena grabbed the bottle of honey and poured it into her tea, let it sit for a moment, then stirred it vigorously. Helena blew the steam away from her face and watched it swirl up into the air and disappear before she eased down into a chair. She looked back up at Cissie.

"You know, I really am sorry for not coming by sooner. I should have come to check up on you after what happened. I'm really sorry..."

"Hmm," Cissie murmured, recognizing a deflecting answer when she heard one. But she dropped it for now--if Helena wanted to tell her, she would. She fixed her own mug of tea and smiled reassuringly at her. "It really is okay. I... Well." Her smile turned wry and she shrugged a little. "I wasn't really myself for a while, or up for much company. So it is okay."

"I'm glad you're alright."

Helena smiled up at Cissie. She really had been concerned, worried. At the same time there was too much going on for her to even focus on her friend. This guilted her into feeling selfish and she didn't like that feeling.

Helena's mood was sinking into the ground quickly. Something fun and interesting, hurry! Helena thought for a moment and then quirked her lip. No, she did not like conversations like this and relationships aside from the one she had been able to have with Valentine just gave her to incredible urge to make fun of people. But Cissie was her friend and she knew the topic would lighten the mood.

"So..." Helena grinned up at Cissie from her seat, "What's going on with you and Tim?" A playful gleam showed in Helena's eyes.

"Um." Cissie blushed again, her smile growing a little silly and very genuine. "Well, we're from the same place," she said, starting to explain a little. "We've been friends for years--we met... three, four years ago? He's been my best friend for a while, and, well... I was sort of been in love with him for a year or so before we got pulled here, and... well. I guess he felt similarly."

Helena watched Cissie blush, saw the glow that lightly shimmered around her. She smiled as a natural response to Cissie's own happiness and was thankful that at least someone in this world had someone from home whom they could love here in this desolate wasteland of a world.

"I'm glad that you are happy then. You are happy aren't you. You kind of shine when you talk about him."

Suddenly Helena felt a punch to her gut. She missed Valentine. She missed him more than she was willing to admit. She was determined to get home back to her Mum and Dad... and back to Valentine.

Cissie pushed her hair back behind her ear, still smiling a little. "Well," she shrugged, "he makes me happy, yes. Obviously we'd all be happier if we weren't here, but..."

Helena nodded.

She too had a lot on her mind... how much she would love to be anywhere but here. She wished and dreamed that she would have been able to be with Valentine, practicing their juggling skits, sketching on the concrete around her grandmother's apartment, sipping on tea and munching on cakes.

She even wished that she could have done that with her new friends in her own world and not here. She would have loved to have coffee with Harvey in the little cafe near her house or even now she would have preferred to be sipping on tea with Cissie in her own home.

But that is not the case. Helena continued sipping on her tea in thoughtful revelry.
