It was that blasted Skywalker stubborn streak. She'd recognize it anywhere. Perhaps she'd been a bit rash when she'd spoken to the boy the first time, but she was only human and emotions got the better of even one so normally skilled at keeping them in check as she was. It hadn't been him that upset her, it had been his name and the memories that were carried with it. Anakin Skywalker had played a vital role in the deterioration of the galaxy, the downfall of the Republic, and the end to her life as she'd know it. If he hadn't tried to kill her and their unborn children on Mustafar...if he hadn't succumbed to his fear and anger and fallen down the darkest of paths, she wouldn't be in this situation. Here, it wasn't so bad. She could call herself Padmé Amidala and not be hunted down by remnants of a man she once loved with all her heart. She could exist here and she hated it, because this wasn't her world. She didn't belong here and it was so unfair that she felt more free within the walls of this compound than she did in the galaxy she called home.
Of course, she knew it was because she didn't really have a home anymore. Her death had been faked; she was dead to the world. She could count the number of people who knew she was still alive on one hand. Her parents, her sister, her children...
Immense sadness welled up within her as she made her way to the park, but she quickly pushed it aside and focused on the young man who was perched upon the branches of a tree. She found him with ease and set the basket she'd been carrying down at her feet to place her hands on her hips and gaze up at him.
"That can't be comfortable, Anakin."
How odd it was to say his name and not say it to the person who's face she was used to it belonging to. It would take some time to get used to, but she was willing to adjust. After all, Anakin Skywalker no longer accepted that name. It might as well go to someone who would use it. It was a good name.
