She began to finally take a look at the sorts of people milling about the area. There was a man not too far off with a deck of cards in his hands. He looked harmless. She cast him a soft smile and a curt nod in greeting, deciding it was about time to continue onward.
A gentle push of her arm brought her to stand upright again, away from the tree. But just as she was about to continue her walk, her attention was drawn to something positively.. strange. A rather odd looking .. animal.. headed deliberately in her direction.
And it was changing colors? This was something she had never seen. Her eyebrows rose in surprise, but she maintained a calm expression, even when the animal began to speak to her. In.. riddles?
"...I'm.. I'm sorry.. I don't think I quite understand what you mean." She replied in response to what sounded like a question, though she couldn't be entirely certain of that.

I'd guess from the way you've already written your reply post that you want to do the second option, so maybe reply to Ryou's comment and tell him how you want to do things/it's his tag? :3)

Then he spied the Cheshire Cat and blinked ever so slightly at the color changing creature. Hearing it speak wasn't even that unusual, not after spending the months he had in the dark world.
"You look a little like a Duel Monster," he said quietly, addressing his words to the cat. Though not any one that he knew offhand, but he would not be surprised to see such a creature in someone's deck.

The touch of the cold and the wet right beneath his paws, sticking to his fur, made him scowl, and his fur changed to a disgruntled black. That was the real world for your. In Wonderland there were ways and ways to go about unseen and unfelt. Here... well, it was harder.
"I am the Cheshire Cat," he added, grin widening as if to proudly display ingrown incisors, flicking an ear with a gold hoop strung through it. "To find sense in insensibility is my nature... but to find is to find, and Cats are curious when they find something new."
He looked at both of them. "And who are you?"
There. There was no riddle in there, not unless they were one themselves. Those were the very best kind.

She smiled at the animal's reply to her question. That, she could understand. She couldn't help smiling, letting out a soft little chuckle as she crouched down to the cat's level. "How very interesting. I've never seen such a cat as you, Cheshire Cat." She sighed, holding out her hand in an offer to pet the animal, hoping her words were as polite as she'd intended so as not to offend the cat.
Her attention was drawn momentarily when the man she'd seen shuffling cards in the corner of the park spoke up. She assumed he was speaking to the cat, because she was fairly certain she did not look like a "monster" of any sort, nor was she "little."
Her hand still held out to the cat, she turned her attention back to the small animal, smiling gently as he spoke again. "My name is Inara. I'm kind of new here. Have you been here very long?"

"Marufuji Ryou," he introduced himself with a slight bending of the head. What the Cat said of himself reminded him somewhat of Fubuki, in a generally good way. Sense in insensibility...though, Fubuki was more inclined to find nonsense in everything.

But it was still nice to be petted. "Your dreams make up who you are, and you make up the landscape of your imagination. Alice dreamed of a Cat who would never frown, even when blood began to stain the walls and seep into soil."
Who knows? Inara may have her own Cheshire Cat tucked away in a corner of her mind too, hiding underneath a Duchess's dress just waiting to pop out.
The other one... now he was a curiosity. Cards and jacks and diabolical dice were no strangers to Cat, certainly not after Our Dark Days... but Ryou played with decks of a different sort, where all the deck was a different kind of death. "Time's up, lay your cards flat... what sort of hand did your luck bring?"
