Azula was not one, especially after the events of last year, to forget the mania that swept Econtra during these foolish holidays. As a result, Azula had been extra careful as to where she went, and how to spot certain irritating plants that left her vulnerable. It was that, of all things, Azula wished to avoid most of all ( ... )

"No, not so much, though the inconvenience remains, Princess Azula," Kragok replied, standing and turning to the young woman. He regarded her calmly, his hands clasped behind his back. Then he grinned. He couldn't help it, the situation was actually amusing.

"You don't happen to be stuck, do you?" he asked, glancing above her head for any free-floating flora.

Azula smiled. "You may call it that, I suppose. It is nothing but trivial to me. It happened last year you see, so I'm more acquainted with this sort of nonsense. It is aggravatingly inescapable."

Azula stared the Echinada down. "I am not. I did not want to have myself hindered by this nonsense. Still, I'm not oblivious to what YOU need. And what you need, of course, is to be freed. Is it unnecessary to free you?"

"Well, I can't deny being in a spot of a quandary. I'd appreciate the help getting free, if it's not too much trouble." Kragok could have had worse options, really. Azula was quite attractive, and the older Echidna leader had already been with someone who had looked rather human (Persephone). So, he was hardly averse to receiving a kiss from her.

Azula cocked her head and smiled. It was forced: she hadn't seen anyone she wanted to kiss after Hazuki, except one other person. But Azula in all her planning was not foolish: that kiss would never come to be, and in certain ways, that was a good thing. What could would come from a kiss forced?

"Very well," Azula said, and gave the grandmaster a kiss. It was one she felt necessary, because it was unfair to be in such a spot, and certainly he would appreciate it. No one would think any more of it, after all.

"You are free," Azula said.

"Thank you," he replied, stepping out from the mistletoe and away from it. He was truly grateful for her help, but he wasn't so inobservant that he failed to notice her hesitance with the kiss.

"Are you all right, Princess?" he asked.

Azula turned to him. "I'm fine. You did not repulse me or anything. I was simply remembering certain things had come to be because of a kiss in the times I've been in Econtra. I think the person who did this was not quite thinking of that impact, but of course I expect to hear nothing but whining on the subject later. It just wouldn't be this place if there wasn't something to drone on about for several days."

Azula stretched lazily. "In any case, it would have been cruel to leave you in that position. There seem to be dangerous people roaming around."

"I slew Finitevus," Kragok replied, "I believe I can handle anyone else who feels that I might be vulnerable." Shaking his head and sighing, Kragok gestured with his claw to the mistletoe hanging nearby.

"This is but an inconvenience, and a mild one at that. I still, however, have yet to figure out why the entire force of this encampment does not fall like a hammer upon those who mean it harm."

Azula quirked an eyebrow. So he had blood on his hands already? Interesting. "Don't underestimate anyone here. This Finitevus probably did the same to you, which is why he is dead. It is never a good thing to be at the mercy of other people, especially when you are not aware of their intentions."

Azula laughed. "Because we have not, and have never been, in a place that has made sense for one involved in a military situation. We are expected to fight, yet secrets of our enemy and our imprisonment have been here since the beginning. Now the enemy looms above and why? Because there is no information except that which was gathered on our own time. Why do you think people waste time with things like these which, while amusing and sometimes nice, do not benefit us? I believe they are scared, and have every reason to be. Fear i not a formidable ally against these aliens."

"He underestimated everyone," Kragok replied, "and it cost him dearly. I speak not out of arrogance, but state simple fact. I have that edge to my fighting that many lack. I am strong, and fast, and have many years of experience over many. I might not be the most powerful here, but I do know I am one of the most dangerous when provoked." He shook his head, knocking snow from his dreads and hood. It had been a while since Kragok had had to fight someone with everything he had as much as he had when he fought Finitevus. It had taken much from him, and he knew it. Still, much of defense was psychological. As long as he could maintain the appearance of an unstoppable fighting machine, those few who would be deterred by such a method would be. For the rest... Kragok was still making that up as he went ( ... )

Azula nodded. "I know the symptoms well. I have made the mistake of your foe once before, but I seldom do make those errors. Still, I can agree: the illusion of power is sometimes as good as actually having it. Perhaps there is still some things I can learn from this wretched place." Azula took the snow off of her hair with a flourish, and the snow fell away in a drift as if it had never settled in the first place. She had become quite fond of doing this trick, and usually did so in jest.

"Ha!" Azula said. "I'll admit, I have learned a lot here, but I certainly do not intend to stay, let alone repopulate! The very idea! The populace has prove most of all that their greatest skill is wasting time and neglecting reality! There is no possible way I'd envision this as anything more than a way station of fools!"

"Indeed. Repopulating would also be a chore for those like myself. After all, the only ones of my species here were Finitevus, my cousin Knuckles at one point or another, and my twin sister." Kragok laughed and shrugged. He found himself amused by the conversation, but also it helped to hide his revulsion at the thought that he might indeed be right.

"I appreciate the assistance, Princess Azula," Kragok said again.

"Hmm. Assuming you do not promote incest and males cannot birth children, repopulation would seem like a bit of a chore for you. I have the luxury of caring very little about populating for children or otherwise." A lie, but those urges of Azula had long since gone once the princess had determined any relationship in Econtra she had would be doomed to leave her alone. It didn't mean Azula shrugged off such activities, just lacked a person she felt secure enough to enjoy them with.

"Think nothing of it. I have faced a similar situation. I doubt you would have wanted your sister to free you in that manner." At this a ghost of a smile was on Azula's lips.

"I doubt you would have wanted your sister to free you in that manner."

Kragok paused when he heard that comment. Slowly, he turned to regard Azula with a most perplexing expression on his face. Then, the Echidna began to laugh. He had a very good idea as to why he was laughing, and he might even have explained it to Azula, but he was laughing far too hard to reply in any coherent manner.

Azula raised an eyebrow, looking at the Echidna in confusion. She had not been aware she had said anything particularly funny. Were things truly this crazy in his world,or did he simply find what she said to be so crazy he laughed?

"I'm not sure what laughter means after that," Azula said. "Care to explain?"

"You would have to know my sister, and my family, to understand, Princess Azula," Kragok replied. "I mean no disrespect, but the humor is somewhat circumstantial."
