"They know I'm Zero..." he repeated to himself.
Startled, Lelouch dropped the strange little device on the floor and took a wobbly step back as voices began to pour out of it in response to his own. He hadn't actually expected a response. Glaring it down with caution, he listened as the voices provided insight into his current predicament. However in blatant disbelief, he lent them no merit. Most of the voices sounded slightly aggitated at the stream of consciousness that he had apparently yelled into the device, but a few of them sounded more congenial. He thought that one of them might have even sounded like C.C., but he dare not answer. Voices were easy to emulate. Even surroundings were easy to emulate. Though it had not been long ago that he learned of it, he had come to accept it as fact. He knew full well what Britannia -what his father- was capable of, and he was certain that he had fallen victim to one of their outlandish traps. How exactly that had happened, though, he was unsure.
"...Suzaku...what have you done to me?" he murmured lowly.
The last thing he remembered was sitting in the cockpit of his Knightmare, watching the power wash out of the Tokyo Settlement....and then, that splitting headache. It was almost as horrible as the one he experienced when-
Lelouch's eyes widened in panic. He dashed to the one small window in the room and stared into his sinister-looking reflection, frantic. No. Both of his eyes appeared their original deep purple, contact floating secure and un-breached over the left one. Relieved, his eyelids drooped to a rest again. He raised his his chin and let out a slight huff, re-focusing his thoughts on the situation at hand.
Blinking, his pupils focused on something past his reflection and drifted slowly downward. It was snowing. It hadn't been snowing in Tokyo that day. Where was he? Moving from the snow, his gaze shifted to survey the dismal gray buildings surrounding the one he was in. They were in ruins, falling apart. Brush overflowed onto the sidewalks and filled the cracks in the crumbling streets below. This place looked as though it were completely abandoned. His eyes narrowed as he stepped back from the window and attempted to rationalize. Why would Britannia place him un-confined in an abandoned city? This was nothing like the treatment he had received from his captors before...
Perhaps...it wasn't completely dismissible that this really was..
Lelouch's lips curled back into a snarl. "No. This is nothing but a cruel attempt to shift my focus from Nunally!"
Having regathered his resolve, he bolted for the door and flung it open. Glancing quickly down both sides of the hallway, he spied the railing of a staircase and made for it. Two flights down, he stopped at what looked like the front door and briefly rested a hand on the wall, catching his breath, and after a few moments, grasped the handle and pushed the door slowly ajar, just enough for a pair of eyes to be able to inspect the roads beyond. Seeing no one, he placed a hand on the pistol at his side and gradually slid out from behind the door.
He stumbled a little further out into the road, turning to observe the dilapidated apartment building in which he had been placed. It was in as bad a state as the rest of the surrounding architecture, but something caught his eye. Were there...were there flowers in one of the windows...? Live flowers? And...a sun catcher too. Another window a few stories up was open and it looked as if there were a light on inside. In fact, there hovering far above the alleyway was a line of brightly-coloured clothes hanging out to dry. Were there people here in this dump after all..?
A sneer darted across Lelouch's face as he heard a sound from somewhere far behind him. Drawing his pistol, he slipped quietly into the shadows of the alley and crouched near the side of the building.
