It had been a while since Kragok had last spoken to Persephone. It had been longer still since he had lest walked through the park. Even in the grip of oncoming winter, Persephone's work stood out. Much of the park was still green, holding strong with the last vestiges of power the goddess had poured into the place. She had put every ounce of effort and strength she had into making the park live, to making it more than just a patch of dry grass and a withered tree trunk.
It had all been for nothing. Kragok's bionic fist impacted heavily against the thick side of one of the trees, punching a splintered hole straight through. It hadn't been enough to bring Finitevus. It hadn't been enough to force Kragok to fight the echidna solely responsible for the fall of the echidna race as a dominant technological power. It hadn't even been enough for Econtra to hide his twin from him, to take her from him. It had taken Persephone as well. The grandmaster's fury knew no limitations at that moment, and he struck the tree again, causing the poor target of his rage to creak and crack, leaning over where Kragok's mechanical fist had come close to felling the tree.
"It's never enough," he muttered, punching the tree a final time. This time, his arm tore the weakened trunk asunder, and the tree fell with a crash. Kragok didn't care, though. Without Persephone, the park would wither and die soon enough anyway, enveloped and smothered in winter's lethal embrace. At least Kragok could make it quick.
