Siegfried remained blissfully unaware of Pegasus's culinary exploits. He had settled himself by a window with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. As long as he remained inside and warm, the snow didn't bother him. And the blanket of chilly whiteness outside reminded Siegfried of home. If the snows had fallen at home, no doubt Leon would be outside doing whatever one supposedly did for fun ( ... )

Unaware of the impending danger, Pegasus continued his tinkering. He tossed a handful of sugar into the pot and sprinkled in a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg, and tasted the concoction again. This time it met his approval, and he set about hunting for suitable mugs to serve it in. He felt rather pleased with himself. Wouldn't Siegfried be surprised when he saw what Pegasus had done?

Upon hearing sounds from the kitchen, Siegfried strolled casually nearer to see. Whether it was Pegasus or the writer or the Lord of Hell, Siegfried didn't care. The snowball was cold and he wanted it out of his hand.

When he spied his target, Siegfried did what one was supposed to do with a snowball. He threw it.

Pegasus, taken totally unawares, gave a yelp and dropped his stirring spoon on the floor. Brushing snow off his clothing, he turned and looked at Siegfried.

"Did you just throw a snowball at me?" he asked. He couldn't argue with the fact that someone had just pitched a snowball at him, but the idea of Siegfried doing it was surprising.

"Ja," Siegfried answered with a grin. He strolled towards the sink so that he could take a moment to run warm water over his cold hand. He assumed that sometime in the near future, there would likely be retaliation. Oddly, he looked forward to it. "I thought perhaps I should try it once."

Pegasus laughed. "Well, good for you. So glad to see you making the most of the weather."

Siegfried's grin turned rather sly. "It was mildly amusing. I shall certainly carry the look on your face in my memories for all eternity. Still, a camera would have been nice so that I could share that look with others."

"I assure you, I am perfectly capable of making a fool of myself in public without your help," said Pegasus with a good-natured chuckle. "Besides, if you annoy me, I might not share what I'm cooking, and then you'd be sorry."

Siegfried raised an eyebrow at this declaration. "I thought turning you loose in a kitchen was as hazardous as turning me loose in one would be. Just what are you preparing?"

"The best remedy I know for cold weather," said Pegasus. He went to tip the heated concoction he'd prepared through a strainer and into a pair of tall mugs. "I'll be the first to admit that I can't cook anything worth eating, but I do mix a good drink, if I do say so myself. I hope you like mulled wine." He dropped a cinnamon stick into one of the mugs and passed it to Siegfried.

Siegfried accepted the mug and gave the contents a delicate sniff. It certainly smelled like mulled wine. There was only one way to tell for certain, however. Siegfried followed up the sniff with a dainty sip, which would have turned into a gulp if the drink hadn't been hot.

Pegasus watched Siegfried's expression as he sampled the drink, and he allowed himself a rather smug smile.

"Told you so," he said, and raised his own mug in a silent toast before taking a sip himself.

Siegfried drank slowly to savor the taste. This was a touch of home more welcome than the snow. "You are a man of many talents."

"Some of them are even useful," Pegasus agreed cheerfully. "And I did promise I'd do my best to keep you comfortable through the cold winter months."

"This is a rather good start," Siegfried murmured contentedly. Now all he needed was to be back under his blanket, working on some bit of fancy computer coding on his laptop. Although Siegfried supposed that he could always work on the PDA. Maybe he could put together a basic spreadsheet program for it. That would make a diverting challenge.

"Now that we're suitably provisioned, shall we go watch the snow fall?" Pegasus suggested. "I don't want to be out in it, but I have to admit that it makes for a lovely view."
