The problem with the way Sokka was apparently seeing him at the moment was how different he was from that hot-headed sixteen-year-old who'd attacked the other boy's village and mistaken his grandmother for the Avatar. Zuko was eighteen now and had grown up a lot since that day--not just physically, but mentally. He was no longer confused and unsure of where he stood. The prince could tell you without doubt or pausing to think it over just who he trusted, what side he was on, and what he wanted to do. No longer did he give answers that were automatic and based solely upon the fact that he was Fire Nation, but gave ones that he fully believed in ( ... )

Of all the crazy, messed up things he'd heard in this place, this had to be the most unsettling of them all. How dare Sokka assume that this was his fault. Zuko was a victim of Econtra, just like him and everyone else! Hell, he'd been brought to this place months before Sokka had even showed his face. The Water Tribe boy had no right to blame this on him and was making it increasingly difficult for the prince to keep the temper he'd inherited from his father in line.

He eyed the sword, knowing well that it could cut through anything. Sokka had proudly shared this information with him at the temple and Zuko knew--or rather, assumed, since he was unaware of the true nature of Sokka's mindset, that he knew how to use it. He wasn't about to loose the dao he'd had with him since he was first banished to a rash idiot ( ... )

"What are you talking about!?" Zuko shouted back at the younger boy. "You're not making sense and you're starting to drive me crazy!"

The things Sokka was saying was computing in Zuko's mind and perhaps if the firebender had been paying closer attention to what Sokka was saying exactly and keeping in mind Econtra's habit of messing with people's minds and perceptions of the world around them, he would've been able to makes sense of what was happening. But of course, the prince was too worked up and angry and thrown for a loop that he'd yet to even start to consider such a thing might be happening. All he knew was that Sokka wasn't acting right and it was really starting to piss him off.

He scoffed in an annoyed manner, eyeing him and the sword he held. "You're acting like an idiot. I'm willing to bet that even Katara would agree with me on that one."

Something about the way Sokka was running at him was...off. What was that idiot doing? That wasn't the right way to hold that thing and with Piando's reputation as one of the greatest swordsmen in the Fire Nation, Sokka should know how to wield a blade correctly. What was the point of attacking him if he wasn't going to do it the right way? Sokka should know that Zuko knew how to fight with a sword just as well as he did--if not better--and that knowledge included knowing how to defend one's self against a blade without having to pick up one themself. Of course, that was assuming the person having a blade pointed at them didn't know how to bend.

But Zuko, of course, did. And he wasn't in the mood to play games. If Sokka wanted a fight, he'd give him a fight--he'd make him use the skills he was certain the other boy had learned from Master Piando ( ... )

At first Zuko, ignored the boomerang, more focused on sending blasts of flames to the ground near Sokka's feet. He jumped out of the way when he spun around after hearing the slight whistling sound it made as it sliced through the air and hurtled towards him, but only managed to spare himself getting knocked in the head with it the second time--which was something to be thankful for, considering he didn't have a helmet on this time. Instead, it caught his arm, just below the shoulder, grazing across the exposed, pale skin and causing blood to start trickling down his arm from the gash.

The prince swore aloud and and glared at the Water Tribe boy, spitting insults in at him about being a worthless peasant and with a tone he hadn't used in a long time. I'm done playing! His mind shouted and he ran towards Sokka, charging at him.

(( ooc: sorry for the delay. life got a little swamped there all of a sudden. ))

Zuko saw what he was about to do and contemplated sending a blast of flames at him or the blade, but stopped. In fact, he stopped all together, coming to halt about a foot away. "Go on," he urged. "Grab it. Pick it up. Show me that you can use it."

In what was perhaps a stupid move on his part, he folded his arms over his chest and waited. Why? He wasn't sure. Maybe it was because defeating him unarmed would've been too easy.

"What's wrong with me is that I'm wasting my time here!" The prince snapped, kicking at the dirt and turning on his heel. "You want to keep acting like a fool? Go ahead!"

And with that, Zuko broke into a run, needing to get away from there and calm himself down before he let his temper get the better of him and did something he would come to regret later.
