Xiao Lang didn't too well with cold. It never got this cold in Hong Kong at least not until the depths of winter, but it was worth it if there was any chance of getting to see the stars.

He stood out by the fountain bundled in his coat and scarf, his face turned up, eyes scanning the heavens. However when he became aware of Willow's presence he glanced over at her. She seemed troubled but it really wasn't any of his business; after all they'd never met so, for now, he'd just mind his own.

The redhead sat for a few minutes more, her finger fidgeting as she pushed her cuticles back with her thumbnails. Her chest ached as she continued thinking over just why she was sitting on the edge of the fountain. A stiff winter wind blew, pulling her auburn locks from behind her ears, fluttering in front of her face.

Grunting softly to herself, she separated and lifted her hands, attempting to quell her windblown locks. "Stupid wind...stupid lack of hat," Willow grumbled quietly to herself.

Xiao Lang shivered against the wind and stuffed his hands in his coat pockets to warm them up. He'd have to remember gloves next time he went outside this late.

With his face half berried in his scarf and his messy hair doing a rather nice job of obscuring the rest the Chinese boy sighed and turned towards the girl on the fountain.

"Hey. You alright?" It wasn't so much curiosity that prompted the question as well she was obviously moping. There wasn't anyway he could enjoy the evening with her sitting there like that.

She heard the young man ask if she was alright and lifted her head, looking over to see him standing there. Noting the eyepatch, she had to stop herself from making a pirate joke and sighed softly, her shoulders rising and falling gently. "Most definitely not," Willow said, forcing a small smile.

Little did the young witch know, a pair of black eyes had spotted her from the darkness.

"Such a grim face, Darlin'. What's that all about?" A cracked white face materialized from the shadows as the Joker approached, rounding the stone base of the fountain with a sweep of his coat.

Willow looked up, turning her head towards the direction the voice came from, arching an eyebrow. The other lifted to match it at the sight of him. The white face paint sticking out in the near darkness. "What's not to be sad about here? It's Econtra. Something's always bound to tear down your spirits and make you wish you hadn't gotten out of bed," Willow said, lowering her gaze to her hands in her lap as she spoke.

A few more steps brought him to stand before the dejected-looking girl and he peered at her, head canted with painted scars that never stopped smiling. Occasionally, a cold drop of rain or sleet fell from the cloudy night sky.

"You haven't learned how to see the funny side of things, have you." It wasn't a question. He shuffled his foot over some dead leaves on the ground, listening to the crunch. "Got a name?"

The Joker had no real interest in her other than she happened to be sitting on one of his "arsenals", so to speak. He'd hidden stores of gunpowder at various locations around the city, including the defunct fountain. Recently, somebody had discovered one of those hiding places elsewhere and had stolen from it as well so the Joker had been making regular trips to check the status of his supplies. In fact, the girl's foot was near one of the stones that made up the fountain's base behind which he'd hidden a few packages of explosive material.

Willow lifted her gaze to the man standing before her, her brow furrowing. "I really haven't been able to look on the bright side of life as of late, no. Can't really think of anything to smile about," Willow said, her tone morose. She'd tried to not be depressed but it seemed like almost everyone she cared about left the complex in one fell swoop, leaving her not one shoulder to cry on, except her roommate's and she wouldn't do that to him. He was off being with his sister and other friends.

"I'm Willow," the redhead replied, her green eyes meeting his dark ones.
