On the one hand, there was something to be said for keeping a clear head in a crisis situation. On the other hand, Simone's nerves had not stopped jangling since she'd picked herself up off of the pavement once the hallucination had broken, and despite the continuing level of unease, there didn't seem to be a crisis looming on the horizon. Not, at least, of the sort she could do anything at all about.

Just one drink, she told herself, not sure if it was a promise or an order.

She looked around as she stepped into the room, noting only a couple of people, though it looked set up for more. "Is this the..." she trailed off, grasping for a word that didn't seem too frivolous, then after a moment gave a mental shrug and settled on the obvious. "Party?"

Otogi wasn't sure if 'party' was the right word or not himself, but he wasn't too picky about terminology. "This is the place." He gestured towards the drinks. "Otogi Ryuuji." He introduced himself with a wave of his fingers as he took another drink.

Simone's slightly wry smile acknowledged her own uncertainty, even if she wasn't willing to verbalize it, nor to admit it too strongly even to herself. She ducked her head slightly, chuffing a quiet laugh. "I should've guessed, just looking around." Of course, she had - thus the question - but one had to be polite. "Simone Tam," she offered. "It's a pleasure to meet you." She didn't sound entirely certain of that; given the circumstances, could it really be called pleasant to meet anyone?

Well, it was something, anyhow.

His lips twitched slightly. "As pleasant as it can be, given everything that's going on, I guess. Though I've had quite a bit of luck meeting people at occasions like this. Even here." His gaze dropped briefly to his ring before going back to her.

"Congratulations," Simone said, as her gaze followed his to the ring, native curiosity not quite stamped out beneath the veil of proper manners. The response was well-ingrained, but sincere for all of that. She could not, of course, be absolutely certain that her interpretation of the ring's significance was accurate, but it seemed a fair bet given the context. "It's good to think that some people's lives still go on, even here."

She smiled faintly, and moved to find herself a drink, though she continued speaking as she considered the selection. "Does this happen often? Not...gatherings, but disasters like this?"

"And I wouldn't have met him if we both weren't here. This place does have some good points. Not many, but some." Otogi relaxed some, and waved up a plate of snacks for himself. "And since I've been here, this is the third time something like this has happened. This is the worst one...in fact, each one gets a little worse than the one before it." He was quite convinced that what was going on now wasn't the end at all. It wouldn't make any sense.

Something spicy, Simone decided, and set about pouring herself a drink before drifting back over.

"You sound a bit like a friend of mine from my own universe," she noted, smiling a little ruefully. "She could always see the good in everything, too." Her eyes widened a little as she watched the plate appear, and she blinked several times as though to clear her vision. Still there. It took a moment or two for her to find words, even simple ones. "How did you do that?"

"The same way I made all of this." Otogi grinned. "Magic." He nibbled on a small sandwich he'd picked up from the plate. "Comes in pretty handy a lot of the time."

"Magic." Simone shook her head, uttering a self-deprecating little laugh. "You know, I've been here a few months now, and I still find that difficult to come to terms with. There's no such thing in my universe, there never has been. Looking at what some of the people here claim to be able to do with it...I can't help but think it's almost a pity, in some respects."

"It can cause a lot of trouble," Otogi said thoughtfully. "But it can be useful at the same time. Like anything else that people have a hand in." He could think of quite a few examples.

Simone looked away, a slight grimace marring the set of her features, her eyes darkening in recollection. "We do seem singularly talented at causing ourselves all kinds of trouble as a species, don't we?" she replied dryly. "Still, it must be amazing to be able to conjure something up out of nothing whenever you wish..."

"It does make a lot of things very, very convenient." Otogi grinned wickedly. "Especially when it came time to decorate our room here." Fubuki had had some very good ideas, and Otogi had loved to implement them.

Simone looked faintly bemused at that; possibly the thought of actually decorating had never occurred to her. "I suppose it would, wouldn't it?" she replied. "Especially if it means you don't have to go about actually hanging the curtains..."
