He hesitated only slightly before asking a question of his own. "By 'black-powder marksmanship'--you refer to olden projectile weapons? Could you not just as easily learn the use of other projectile weapons? --Considering I'm sure you could have access to such designs in this place. And, what type of fencing are you proficient in?"

"Aye, exactly that." confirmed the Puritan. He drew one of the single-shot wheellock pistols from his belt, flipped it over by the barrel for John to examine if he wished. "I could of course avail of more futuristic weaponry, and easily given enough time. But old habits die hard." He removed his hat. "My swordsmanship is English-trained. I studied the French ways when I served with the Huguenots as well as the Spaniard-style as a way of knowing my enemy. I can fight Florentine* if need be."

Preston reached out idly to finger the primitive weapon, glancing up for confirmation to take hold of it before actually doing so to take a closer look. He eyed it intently for a moment then returned it. It would be more than useless for a Gun Kata master such as himself. But against others of the same time period it was perfectly adequate he imagined. It seemed well kept and in, for an in use object, more or less perfect condition. That in and of itself gave Preston more of an insight into the man before him.
"A master of several different forms," the Cleric noted with almost a hint of something that might be considered as satisfaction by anyone not from Libria. He gave a curt nod. "Excellent. How do you think such techniques would hold up against a Kendo way of fighting? Perhaps one day we test it out."

Devon's King of Swords smiled lightly, and mayhap a touch gratefully that John gave him the chance to not let his skills atrophy. This would be a worthy battle. "A duel with the Eastern styles at thy convenience." He bowed, a steely glint in his blue gaze. "Sir Preston... I accept thy invitation."
OOC: Yo, I'll be dropping Rory into the Open Batman thread after a party with the dudes. It's time the Bat Family's Econtran uncle met the father. =D
