Johan was wandering around, getting some fresh air. Ruby Carbuncle was on his shoulder, and Cobalt Eagle was circling around some, keeping an eye out for Haou. His Gem Beasts were quite dedicated lately to making sure he stayed safe. He wondered sometimes if Juudai had talked to them about it, but hadn't asked. Besides, they were quite likely to have decided it on their own.

As he walked, he spied someone doing some drawing with chalk ahead of him. Curious, he paused and watched, wondering just what was going on. When the jacket was fixed, he blinked a few times.

"That's got to save a fortune at the tailor's," he said with a grin.

She looked up at Johan after she finished fixing her coat. "It's what Alchemy can do." She said with a smile. She then noticed something a bit different on his shoulder. It started out as just a rather blurry image in the air, then as she blinked, the image of the Duel Spirit slowly solidified.

She shook her head a bit, covering her eyes for a moment. She had no idea what the creature was, but it looked rather cute. She just smiled at Johan for a moment, the metal of her automail port easy to see without the coat on.

"I'm Alice Elric."

"Johan Andersen." Johan blinked for a moment as the name struck a familiar chord. "Hey, I think we talked on the PDAs. You're rooming with Haou." He winced hearing that name cross his lips and took a breath. "Um, the alternate version of my boyfriend, Yuuki Juudai." He wondered if she had something wrong with her eyes, though she had almost looked as if she'd seen Ruby. There were some people who could do that here, he'd learned.

"Yes. I am." She said, standing up and dusting herself off. "It's nice meeting you Johan." She said with a friendly smile before reaching her hand out to Ruby on his shoulder. "And who's this?" She asked with a smile.

"Oh, so you can see her!" Johan smiled. "This is my partner, Ruby Carbuncle. She's a Duel Spirit." He gestured up to where Cobalt Eagle was on guard. "That's Cobalt Eagle over there."

Ruby leaned forward to sniff a bit at Alice, then trilled her approval.

"Ruby likes you," Johan told her.

"I'm surprised that I'm able to. If you said that she was a Duel Spirit..." She thought for a moment. "Maybe it's because...." She shook her head a bit. No, it couldn't be because of the Gate. Well, with both of her arms she could do alchemy without drawing a circle. Maybe that's what allowed her to see Ruby.

"Ruby is cute." She then looked up at Cobalt Eagle for a moment. "I don't know how I'm able to. I've never seen any sort of spirit before."

Ruby trilled and preened a little and Johan laughed a bit, petting his partner. "I don't know why some people can see them and some can't. It's not all that common even where I'm from." Of course, that was why he had the goal that he did, to help those who couldn't forge bonds with the spirits anyway.

There was preciously little logic to his actions, at times -- Judai knew just as much, footsteps carrying him out of the rather dingy building where his quarters were located and towards the crowded plaza. At every step, he felt the sharp twang of some bruise or twisted ligament protesting rather fiercely, at the constant movement ( ... )

Alice's eyes narrowed as she heard an all too familiar voice. She didn't expect to see him out here and she turned to look at Judai, a look that was half bored, half annoyed. "Judai." She said simply, one hand gripping a piece of chalk just in case she might have to use it.

Johan had trusted his family to let him know if Haou got anywhere near him. Looking back, he felt he should've known that the other could hide himself if he really wanted to. Great.

Stifling the instinctive fear, as best that he could, he glared over at the other. At least he'd never mistake this Judai for the one he loved. They might look alike, but he knew so many differences.

For one thing, his Juudai wasn't a pain in the ass.

"Did you want something other than being annoying?"

Yes, they were both quite infuriating, in their own ways -- so much so that Judai would have been very willing to teach them a well-deserved lesson in proper respect. However, despite his rather impulsive nature, he was definitely no fool -- attempting to do anything in broad daylight, in a crowded section of the compound was not something advisable -- and not while they were together ( ... )

She gave a light shrug, not really caring right now. "I don't care." She said simply. Even with just one arm, she could still use alchemy and as long as she kept some chalk with her, she could quickly draw a circle. Though, she had to be given enough time to do so.

She didn't trust the look on Judai's face and was ready to move away and use some alchemy if she needed to.

Johan ground his teeth slightly, remembering quite clearly how he'd been 'taught' that. And like it or not, the lesson had stuck.

He turned away from Haou and reached into his pocket for his deck. "Want to see the other Gem Beasts? There's Amethyst Cat, Topaz Tiger, Amber Mammoth, Sapphire Pegasus, Emerald Turtle, the Crystal Kittens, and Rainbow Dragon." As he named the last one, he couldn't help but shoot a sly glance towards Judai, remembering that moment in the Paj hallway when Rainbow Dragon had so sharply dismissed the grand Haou with a simply flick of his tail.

Their lack of proper respect was irritating, to say the least -- more so since both of them were individuals that had marred their names with quite significant mistakes, thus standing far below those who had committed no wrongs, in the young Haou's eyes. The Elric girl had made the mistake of opposing a direct order, one upon which Judai would have never backed down, while Andersen...

There were far too many points of contention that he had with the teal-haired boy in order to list them all without wasting more time than he was ever willing to offer for such a ridiculously frivolous thing.

"I hold no interest in your worthless curs, boy" Judai sneered, yellow eyes swiftly narrowing, as he recalled that rather humiliating moment -- one which he had struggled to put out of his thoughts most of the time, since the dismissal of such a strong, pure Spirit had been something that even he hadn't been able to completely ignore. "They hold no value or importance to me ( ... )

And now Alice was pissed. She didn't care about the consequences right now as she moved. She saw haw Johan reacted to and what he called Judai so she knew that there was a past between them, and it wasn't a good one. She wished that she had both arms as she pushed Judai away from Johan.

A second later, she pushed Johan back before quickly kneeling down on the ground and starting to draw another alchemy circle. She just hoped that she would have the time to finish it before Judai decided to kick her while she was down here, if he did.

Johan stumbled back a step or two, startled first by Judai's seizing of his chin...and he knew, he knew, that fear reflected in his eyes in that moment before Alice had pushed him back, and he didn't doubt at all that Judai had seen it.

He wasn't quite sure himself of what Alice was doing now, but it looked like the same kind of circle she'd draw to fix her coat. Whatever it was, if it got Haou to leave them both alone for now, he was fully in favor of it.

"Actually, I was talking to Alice, not you." Johan couldn't help the slightly smug grin that briefly replaced the faint hints of fear on his face. "You've already met my family."
