Darkwing had started his nightly habit of wandering around the compound, on the watch for evil doers. (Though it seems he was always unlucky in finding such evil doers.) However, he had become quite able to find other people training.

"Is that a new technique?" Darkwing asked from the shadows of a tree. It seemed her movements were more sluggish than what her form would suggest, which he could easily note with his keen eyes, of course.

Hiiragi paused to spare the form in the shadows a glance. She'd been pushing herself for a good while, and how tired she was showed. "I'm... I'm still learning the stick," she said, huffing a bit as she caught her breath.

"Well, for a beginner, that was impressive." Darkwing said, studying her. "How long have you been practicing?"

Hiiragi glanced up at the evening sky. She hadn't checked the time when she'd come out, but she knew she'd been outside a while working out. "Since just before sunset."

"That's over an hour. Have you been going at that pace the whole time?" Darkwing asked. She had good stamina if she was going that hard for that long.

Hiiragi gave whoever was in the shadows her best defiant look. "So what if I have?"

"It's impressive." Darkwing commented. "Especially for being a beginner. Usually people get tired easily and to keep going so hard. Watching the fighters here is...very informative." Darkwing said. It had been, honestly. Even on the planet of superheros, to see so much training and hard work from such different people. It was almost amazing.

Hiiragi reached up to push a bit of sweat-soaked hair out of her eyes. "Yeah? Well, maybe I want to wear myself out."

Now THAT was an odd response. Darkwing stepped out of the shadows, looking at her questioningly. "Are you all right?" He asked.

Hiiragi was, of course, a bit surprised to see that the man she'd been talking to was a duck. But The World had its own share of Beastman characters, so she was able to take it in stride.

The duck's question struck a chord. It was the one thing no one had yet asked Hiiragi. "No," she answered in a voice barely above a whisper as tears began to well up in her eyes. "...I miss him so much..."

Darkwing walked over to Hiiragi. "A friend of yours has left the compound?" He asked. She seemed very used to this place, so it had to be someone who left, right?

Hiiragi nodded while she wiped at her eyes. While she may be emotional, Hiiragi didn't want to break down in front of a total stranger.

"And this was to vent frustration?" Darkwing asked, studying the woman. His duty as a hero was to help people, after all, and that could include being a listening ear at times.

Hiiragi nodded again, not quite trusting herself to speak.

After a few moments, Darkwing reached up and put a hand on her upper arm, not quite able to reach her shoulder and not be too close for comfort. He was rather short and she was rather tall. "I'm here if you need an ear." He said, using more of his fatherly tone than superhero helping a citizen tone.

And the floodgates burst open. Hiiragi dropped to her knees, grabbed onto the duck, and began sobbing.
