"Of course!" Iffy? Maria was fairly convinced at this point that anything Tohru made would be delicious, even if she was slightly self-conscious about it. So she certainly didn't complain, and collected the pitcher of mead and three glasses, taking them out to the table and filling them to the top.

For a brief moment, Maria wondered what Shadow was up to, and if he felt he was missing out on their little gathering. But she spent so much time with him, and so surely he wouldn't mind if she and her friends had a bit of girl-only time.

"Whatever you're making in there smells delicious~" she commented cheerfully while still at the table.

"I'm sure it will be wonderful, Tohru-chan. That's so fun, matching drinks with the food!" She walked back toward the kitchen to help carry out anything else that might need to be taken to the table.

Maybe someday, hopefully, Maria would be as good a cook as Tohru. She really hoped so, because being able to make so many tasty things was a wonderful talent. And even if she was never as good as the older girl was, any sort of improvement would be appreciated, both by herself and surely also by anyone she might later decide she wanted to cook for!

The only reason Rouge made herself come to such a childish activity was because Maria had asked and sounded very excited about it. Otherwise she would have gone about her own business, choosing to avoid the third girl at tonight's event. It wasn't that she hated Tohru, she just never struck the bat as anyone interesting or someone to look out for. Unless it served some purpose, Rouge opted to leave the other to whatever she busied herself with.

But now, she was in a situation where she would be forced to interact with her, playing a child's party game, no less. There was a slight sense of relief that Shadow wouldn't around (or so she assumed, in any case) for being caught playing Truth or Dare with a child and some girl she hardly knew was somewhat embarrassing, even if she planned to play it off as nothing if someone were to come in.

Resigned to her fate, Rouge knocked once before opening the door and heading immediately towards the two girls. If she was truly displeased with being here, she hid it well. "I hope I'm not late~"

"Oh, no, not at all! Come on in, Rouge." Maria smiled, waving a little a the bat as she made her way in. "Tohru-chan just finished making dinner for us, and we could eat at the table or on the pillows, whichever we decide, I suppose."

Finally, all of them were here, and everything was in order! It wasn't a big deal, no, but Maria was happy nonetheless.

"Mead? That depends on the spices you've put in it." And how alcoholic it was, but she would pry into that. She doubted it would be much, given her company, though that wouldn't stop her from hoping it was at least somewhat potent.

As Tohru was setting the table, she took a seat in one of the chairs, noting the pillows off to the side. Those only added to the feeling of this being a child's party.

It seemed the table was to be preferred over the pillows, and Maria had to tell herself not to be disappointed a little. She'd never had a chance to have the sort of silly parties she'd read about in a few of the books she'd found at the library. They hadn't been good books, exactly, but some parts of them had sounded sort of nice.

But she had to keep her company in mind, as well. Both Rouge and Tohru were too old for such things, and Rouge especially seemed too sophisticated to be interested. Anyway, there was no need to complain - she was just glad they'd come! So she, too, took a seat at the table.

"Rouge, I've been meaning to say, thanks for the books you suggested. I finished one this morning and it was very sweet."

"They were nothing like that at all," she replied, leaving the rest of the question up to Maria to answer as she took a sip of the mead. Rouge masked her disappointed. While she liked the sweeter drinks, she preferred them coupled with a more tasteful amount of alcohol. Oh well, if she really wanted an alcoholic drink, she could get it elsewhere.

So, Shadow was training her? Tohru didn't look like a girl with a lot of muscle on her, so the bat doubted she'd ever be overly useful in combat, but at least the girl was trying to learn.

"He's training you? He hadn't told me that." Maria stifled a giggle at the idea of her brother trying to show Tohru how to fight, or really, the idea of Tohru fighting at all. It was unexpected, that was for sure. But self-defense was probably a good thing to know, at least, and Maria wondered briefly if she should ask Shadow to maybe do the same for her.

"Anyway, no, they're just silly little love stories. But it's fun! Not something I would have picked out on my own, but it's good to read new things sometimes."

Rouge raised an eyebrow at Tohru when she mentioned retreating as a reason for training. "...Right. It's important to know your place in a battle and stay where you're needed." Not that she had ever been in a major conflict herself, but she knew that with her training, the front lines wouldn't be where she'd be at. Especially up against this kind of foe, most of them, including herself, would be absolutely useless in a head-on attack ( ... )

Maria seconded that question, although she seemed a lot less suspicious. She trusted Tohru, and found the magic fascinating, besides. Before waiting for an answer to Rouge, she reached for her glass and took a small, curious sip.

"Oh, that's very interesting! I've never had a drink like this before. You said it was called mead?" Maria wasn't quite sure whether or not she liked it, yet, but she did like the sweetness, and trying new things never hurt.

"You've really learned a lot of magic by now, haven't you?"
