It had been several days since his last conversation with Gojyo, the one where Hakkai had inadvertently ended up telling Gojyo how he felt about it. He hadn't heard from him at all in the interim, which had made him assume he had made a grave mistake in telling him. And yet here he was, back at the room after Gojyo had...sung love songs to him. Gojyo's answer to his knock was also a song, but the door muffled the words enough that he couldn't make them out. Opening the door, he said, "Ah- I'm back."

It was good, no, great to see Hakkai again. Gojyo had only meant...well, he didn't really know what he meant to do when he started asking Hakkai which one of them, him and the him Hakkai knew, Hakkai liked more, but it was definitely not to get a confession out of the brunet. Maybe.

Well, considering what he had just been about to say sing seconds ago (Well, you gotta give me lovin' and you gotta give me some'), he didn't really trust himself not to say something lewd right now. But he couldn't let Hakkai just walk away again. Keeping one hand clamped firmly over his mouth, he stood up from the bed and wrapped the arm of the other around his roomie, pulling the brunet close.

When Gojyo didn't say anything, Hakkai had shifted his weight once, nervously, considering whether it might be best to take his leave again. He could go back to hiding from Gojyo. He could even find a new place to live, and this whole thing could be avoided.

But then Gojyo hugged him. Of course, it was somewhat strange that he did so with a hand over his mouth, Hakkai noted in the back of his mind, while the rest of him was in shock at the hug. Even the magic spell from a month ago and Gojyo's words in his journal hadn't really prepared him for the actuality of it. "Goj-" he said, cutting himself off in his own surprise.

Slowly, Gojyo removed his hand from his mouth. He relaxed when Hakkai didn't pull away from him, and buried his nose into the brunet's hair. He smelled different, but that was okay. This was okay, too. "I'm sorry," he murmured into the soft locks, mentally thanking the goddess he got that out without breaking into another cheesy song that would probably mess up what he wanted to say.

Hakkai nodded, not entirely sure what he was agreeing with. Really, it was more like an automatic gesture than an agreement. He hid his face in Gojyo's shoulder, saying softly, "I'm glad you wanted me to come back, and not..."

Gojyo sighed, wrapping his other arm around the brunet and pulling him tight against himself. "I never wanted you to go. I'm sorry for not stopping you, and not getting you back sooner," he said, then promptly broke into song again: "Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here, waiting for you...aw, fuck."

Hakkai chuckled, a bit awkwardly but trying to hide it. He hadn't been expecting Gojyo to direct all that emotion at him. In fact, he had thought Gojyo wouldn't have wanted to hear it, those days ago, and he'd tried at all cost to get Gojyo to stop asking him which version of his friend he'd rather have here.

The things Gojyo had said to him a month or so ago, about a relationship... He'd thought it was the magic, and even within the magic, that he probably meant a different Hakkai. Maybe he still did... After all, Gojyo had avoided the mirrored question about which Hakkai he'd rather have here.

"Hakkai?" Gojyo asked softly when the brunet just chuckled, thinking maybe he'd said something wrong or maybe he'd gotten everything all wrong and the brunet was laughing at him or something. Hakkai liked him...right? "Hey," he said, poking him on the shoulder.

Gojyo might think him crazy for saying it, but...it would probably be better to be truthful. "I thought maybe you wouldn't have wanted to hear it from me," Hakkai said.

"Wouldn't have wanted to hear what?" he asked, genuinely confused and totally missing the emphasis on the 'me'.

"The things I mentioned, when you were asking about the Gojyo from my world," Hakkai said quietly. "It's..." he paused before continuing, "surprising to me that you would want to hear such a thing from me and not...someone else. A different me, maybe."

Gojyo pulled back from the embrace so he could see Hakkai's face easier. "What do you mean a different you?" he asked, frowning deeply, cupping the brunet's face gently with one of his calloused hands, his thumb on Hakkai's cheek, close to his lips.
