Wetness. Sand and green - she fractures into light, and sun-filtered golden comes through the trees. Believe in the sunlight. It keeps the walls at bay, keeps the world sane. Splinters and slivers of brilliance glittering on the lake, blunt grass tickling nerve endings. It has been too long since she felt all of these things, but the walls, the walls, oh, too many thoughts, too much to think, too much to feel.
She can't get away from it all, so she'll get as far as she can...
River Tam sat by the edge of the lake, the tips of her toes pointed so the lap of the lake touches her feet every now and again. She held her arms behind her head, eyes closed, letting the wind rifle at her clothing. Sliding her hands back and forth across the grass, River laid there, a faint smile on her lips, humming catches of little songs that drifted through her head.
