But she was glad he'd accepted in the end, lured to spend some time (playing chess, no less) by the potential promise of information. That was why she'd really said it in the first place. Habits died hard, and she'd had no other way to expect him to want to pay her any notice or keep her company.
No, that wasn't it; it wasn't attention she wanted, precisely. Mercury wanted something to distract her from the nagging criticisms her mind had been throwing at her from the moment the transformation spell had reversed, something to shake her out of the dull feeling that had permeated her over the past couple days.
The blue-haired girl tossed her communicator lightly on the bed she'd been occupying in Mars' room, and wandered out into the common areas of the apartment to find Erk. It wasn't long before she was seated and had a makeshift board and set of men (all made from ice, although it wouldn't be painfully cold - and nor would it melt) arranged for a match.
