The sky was dimming, the sun setting over the edge of the obex and the clouds reflecting the light in bright gentle hues. Garth was losing light fast, and he would never be so greatful as to have a light function in his flight ring. He floated up until he reached the tips of the trees, five meters below the cuffing limit. He would weight here, where his sillouette would help this Danny Phantom guy to find him. Hoped the kid would be on time.
The whole thing was too much at once. Like being given his powers, shoved into the future by Clockwork, and fighting Pariah Dark and his dark self all in one day. Or at least it felt like that, even if the only really bad things thus far had been the shock from the attempt to get the bracelet off, and the mental shock from Dani. Something was wrong with her. Even if he had done something to deserve to be hated like that, she just... it wasn't right.
He knew he was a big glowing spectral target in the sky, when he flew up towards the other figure he could see outlined there, but she'd said she wanted to take care of it in private. So staying very, very public might be his best bet for keeping her from hunting him down and killing him... at least until he could pause long enough to catch his breath and talk to someone.
"Uh, hi!" He waved a little as he approached.
Huh, Garth didn't think Dani's cousin would be that scrawny. He chuckled dryly under his breath and closed the distance between them, stopping a safe five feet away. "Hey kid, Danny.." he pointed to the emblem on the kids chest. "Right?"
His expression grew slightly more serious as his attention fell to the ground. "You see Dani yet?"
"That's me... Danny Phantom." Superhero and scrawny, gawky dork compared to the older hero in front of him. Outside of comic books, and well, Dani, he'd never met another 'superhero' before. It was a little embarrassing, but he managed to pull himself up and tried to smile confidently, his tail whisping underneath him as usual in flight.
Then Garth's question made him look around over his shoulders, as though expecting to see green blasts coming at any time. "No. I've just talked to her. Well, sort of--the last time I saw her at home, she was a happy twelve year old." Basically, give or take some cloning. "Now she looks like she belongs in college!"
"Live Wire." Garth replied, shrugging at the small details, if Danny was as tough as his cousin, then he didn't need to ask. Kid was atleast doing one thing right, using his powers for good. Maybe he could learn a few things from the older, more experiances legion? He then noticed the others nervousness.
"Yeah, so I heard. Month or two ago she was here, little kid, then got sent home and got pulled back, older, and I'm guessing a whole lot stronger. My problem is? She went to the dance with Brainy and Brainy didn't come back. I know, I checked."
Idiotically, the first thing Danny wondered was, who was this guy who was going out on dates with his little cousin? That was squashed fast, at the memory of Dani's earlier words and open threats. She was a big girl now, she could take care of herself. Really, she always had, hadn't she?
Danny shook his head once. "I don't know if this is normal behavior for her, but it wasn't when I knew her. And your friend is missing, too..." Brainy? Was that a nickname, or a really, really short superhero title? It wasn't important, he could find out later. "Yeah, if things were any more suspicious they'd have a big neon sign blinking and pointing at it. Do you want to look for him? Maybe, if we can find him, he'll know what's going on. Or at least we can see if he's acting strangely too."
"C.O.M.P.U.T.O's malfunctioning, fair to say he's in trouble if he's not locked in his room trying to fix it." Garth replied as he dropped down a few yards to begin his search in and around the sight of the party. "You want to give me a summery? She's got the whole apperition thing going for her, ghost powers.. same as you?"
"Yeah. Intangibility, ectoplasmic energy, that kinda thing... I think I can do a couple of things she can't, or she couldn't when I last knew her, but she might have learned since then. One is kind of a 'ghostly wail,' it's pretty tough to keep up my energy when I do that, though. And I can freeze things." Come to think of it, Vlad had never shown any powers like those, either. He followed Live Wire obediently, a few feet behind. Danny knew it wasn't appropriate, given how serious the situation was, but he couldn't help the enthusiasm that leaked into his voice as he asked, "What can you do?" There was no demand in the tone, just curiosity.
"Freeze stuff? Ecto plasm? That's kind of like a swiss army knife if powers.. Lucky stiff." Garth smirked as he flew, having a general idea of where the hell he was off to. The tent was at the lake, after all.
"I'll give ya a hint. My old name was Lightning Lad." He replied, with noticeable amusement in his voice. He stopped over the tent that had yet to be removed from the park from the night before. He would have bet anything Brainy didn't stay that long, he was always the stand on the sidelines types, espcially for that thing for Chameleon Boy's shindig..
"Lightning Lad?" Danny paused in mid-air for a moment, but not long enough to be left behind, catching up again fast. "That's pretty cool too. I guess I sort of got the grab bag, yeah... but there aren't a lot of other people with powers where I'm from. Not enough to make a team or a, a Legion or anything like that. It's nice to meet somebody else who..." Didn't think the idea of being a superhero was ridiculously childish? "Well, who does the kinda stuff I do at home. What's the tent for?"
"Yeah it's cool." Garth said with enthusiasm, then smirked at his second comment and turned to him. "Least you can say you did it first when you're old and there's a couple hundred heroes flying around.. Also, the Tent is the last place Brainy was seen, or last place he said he was going to." Garth said as he returned to duty mode. Where would Brainy go? Where would Dani go? He turned from the tent and started weaving in and out through the large haunting trees.
Danny couldn't help grinning back at Garth's suggestion, although it was hard to imagine for the moment. A little less hard, now that he'd been here... just casually walking around he'd seen some pretty weird stuff already.
The woods' atmosphere was a little spooky, especially considering they were looking for a missing person, someone who'd last been seen with a Dani potentially gone nuts and who was still gunning for Danny's head apparently, but at least there weren't skeletons coming out of the ground or anything. For the moment. He glanced around over his shoulders again, feeling a little paranoid. Even when she was younger, Dani could hit pretty hard, and it wouldn't take much to sneak up in this place. "What's Brainy look like?"
Garth had paused in flight, seeing a strange purple blip of light about thirty feet away under a large half head pine tree. "Green skin... Purple eyes.. Purple cloths.. Blond hair.. You know what? Can't miss him.. and I think I found him." he said as he darted forward to the pine tree. Sure enough, there were a pair of legs sprawled out from under the long branches of he tree.
"More specifically? He looks like this." Garth said as he reached down and picked the young alien by the stomach and sholder. He felt kinda cold.. That is, colder then he usually was, for a robot.
The green skin didn't even look odd to Danny after enough time around ghosts, but it was obvious the other guy had seen better days. What had happened? In a perverse way, he was kind of glad that this was a sign Dani really wasn't herself--that she didn't really want to kill him. Hopefully.
"Has he got... injuries anywhere?" Danny lit up a hand with green energy, to try to help examine the body. He looked okay, just... not conscious.
"Can't be sure. " Garth replied, he could probably just reload his programming if he just had access to the main C.O.M.P.U.T.O main frame. It would be so much easier. Even Bouncing boy could do it easier then he could. "Okay, look, you want to tag along and talk sommore? Cos I gotta take care of him."
Tagging along sounded kind of weird, but Danny had to admit, that was what he was doing. This wasn't his team, it was Dani's... when she was in her right mind, at least. "Sure. Anything else I can do to help?" He was far stronger than his lean frame implied, but Live Wire didn't exactly look like a lightweight or seem to be having trouble carrying the other teenager. The urge to ask some more questions about Dani was strong, but he repressed it for the moment in the name of business. Someone was hurt, this wasn't the right time.
"Keep an eye out for your spooky cousin?" Garth suggested as he slung Brainiac 5's arm over his shoulder and supported his lean body under his arms. There really wasn't he could do either, not with the limited practical technology skills. Operating instraments on the Legion cruiser he could handle, inventing was brainy's stich.
"Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea." Extra-spooky at the moment, though they both kind of qualified for the title. Danny glanced around some more, wary at the reminder. "... Is she normally that... angry?"
It reminded him of the future Val, a little. But the rage was different, directed not at a monster Danny became but at Danny himself, for failing. He had the uncomfortable sensation that when this business was over, he might find out he still deserved a few good hits from Dani at least. Some superhero.
"Normally? This place is normal?" Garth joked somberly as he lifted of towards the clinic. "No.. She's confident, capable.. Kinda why we let her join."
Probably give the girl some credit, try to give Danny a little encouragement. They couldn't just let her do something she was going to regret later on. If he knew anything, that's where this place got ugly.
"Well, y'know, normal for this." Two guys named Live Wire and Danny Phantom carrying around someone named Brainy was already stretching 'normal' pretty far even without the setting. But hearing his cousin praised eased a bit of the weight off Danny's chest, and he smiled a little. "That sounds more like the Dani I used to know. Something must have happened, but... she's always been pretty brave." It sounded condescending, he realized, talking about a woman older than he was. It would take time to adjust to the idea. "And really tough."
Even when they'd first met and hadn't exactly been best friends. Danny let Garth take the lead while he looked around them, just in case of surprise attacks.
