Aerith was excited to see Zuko -- she still cared about him, and he was her friend. She was also worried about the display she had seen between him and Mai at the ball, since it looked a little more serious than just a lovers quarrel. If Zuko had said that was all it was though, then she would believe him. Reaching near the clearing where they always met, she slowed down a little and took a moment to just watch him. Frowning thoughtfully, she looked for any signs that he was still upset about the squabble, cut couldn't really find any. "Hey," she said as she entered the clearing. "Are you alright?"

Zuko looked over to her when she approached with an expression he hoped registered as sad. He did what he could to push the smirk that was dying to be released, being that he was satisfied that she'd shown up and that she didn't seem to have caught onto the fact that his personality had reverted to how it had been a year ago. He pursed his lips and sighed, lifting his head some and and running a hand through his unkempt hair.

"I think I will be," he said sadly, "Eventually. I just don't think I can keep doing this anymore. All we do is fight--even before either of us came here." He shook his head. "We were breaking up and getting back together nearly three times a week back at the palace. Maybe this is a sign that this just isn't worth the effort."

Aerith grew more concerned, and tried to think of a way to help Zuko and Mai -- she did consider them both friends, and didn't like to see them arguing. She had a hunch about how close they really were, as well. "Zuko, I know Mai loves you. I think that maybe...being here is good for you both, and that if you give each other a little bit of space right now, things will work themselves out? I don't want to see you two break up for good over a little thing. Just, give it some thought?" she looked at him, almost pleadingly, desperate to help out her friend, and completely oblivious to how he really was.

"If we argue here, what makes you think we're not going to start arguing at home, where we argued even more!?" He snapped, whirling to face her with an expression he hoped showed how supposedly upset he was. He calmed and let out a sigh, dragging a hand through his hair. "Sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I'm just...so frustrated lately. Being in a relationship is supposed to be a wonderful experience, not one that makes me miserable trying to please her."
