Yugi had been insistant that what had happened on the pier that day didn't matter at all, and the blond's attempts to believe his best friend were the reason why he could get through each day cheerfully. To be honest, it still did bother him. And though he usually just avoided thinking about it, and it usually worked, when something was causing the event to randomly appear unwanted in his thoughts...
Well, that was a mildly unexpected sight. There was Kaiba - the female one - sitting on the fountain dejectedly. He supposed the reason he wasn't as surprised was the sheer nature of this place - it was small enough that one could run into people at random like this.
Usually, Jounouchi would have probably ignored the situation, or at the very most made some kind of mildly rude comment. But seeing as Kaiba looked like she felt like crap, and Jounouchi himself certainly felt like crap, and some of the messages on the communicator made it known that the two of them were certainly not alone...
"You all right, Kaiba?" Jounouchi asked, walking towards the CEO.
It couldn't hurt for two people who felt like crap to give each other a tiny bit of companionship, right?

"What do you want?" She snapped. She just wanted to be alone.

Jounouchi was very much aware that he had no clue what this Kaiba was going through; however, he knew that if he were to lose Shizuka, to say that he wouldn't take it well would be an understatement, so he understood at least parts of what Kaiba must have been going through. And to have it replaying over and over again...

"Besides, you're not the only one having them," he added, almost as an afterthought, though without the tone to suggest that it was.

She needed to get some real sleep. She wasn't acting like herself. She knew that she wasn't her normal sarcastic self.

He wasn't going to push her away, though. After all, that would just start all kinds of fighting that he didn't want to go through right now. Besides, focusing on Kaiba was helping his mind to not drift back to the hallucinated sound of others' projected thoughts.

After all, it could always be pointedly denied later that it ever happened.
