Damn it... Jounouchi thought, only barely certain that it was his own, present thought that he was thinking and not something else coming back to haunt him as he made his way out the door, looking to take a walk and find something to do. His had not been the best of mornings - every time his thoughts drifted off to not focus on anything in particular, he could hear... well, technically they were his own thoughts, and yet they weren't, could never be called, would never be considered his own, and they were mixed with that insane other voice.

Yugi had been insistant that what had happened on the pier that day didn't matter at all, and the blond's attempts to believe his best friend were the reason why he could get through each day cheerfully. To be honest, it still did bother him. And though he usually just avoided thinking about it, and it usually worked, when something was causing the event to randomly appear unwanted in his thoughts...

Well, that was a mildly unexpected sight. There was Kaiba - the female one - sitting on the fountain dejectedly. He supposed the reason he wasn't as surprised was the sheer nature of this place - it was small enough that one could run into people at random like this.

Usually, Jounouchi would have probably ignored the situation, or at the very most made some kind of mildly rude comment. But seeing as Kaiba looked like she felt like crap, and Jounouchi himself certainly felt like crap, and some of the messages on the communicator made it known that the two of them were certainly not alone...

"You all right, Kaiba?" Jounouchi asked, walking towards the CEO.

It couldn't hurt for two people who felt like crap to give each other a tiny bit of companionship, right?

She looked up at Jounouchi as he walked over to her. Great. Just what she didn't need. "No, I'm not, Mutt." She muttered, shaking her head. She hadn't been able to sleep in a couple of days.

"What do you want?" She snapped. She just wanted to be alone.

"Well, that's not nice," Jounouchi responded, the slightest hint of his classic sarcasm showing through. "Here I am, simply asking what's wrong, and you go and snap at me." And it wasn't as though he needed to be yelled at, especially given everything.

She rolled her eyes, remembering the classic sarcasm. "I haven't slept in several days." She muttered. It was obvious by the way she looked. She sighed and shook her head. The lack of sleep was really starting to get to her.

Without asking whether it was all right or not, Jounouchi sat down on the fountain. Far enough away that it couldn't really be considered 'next to' Kaiba, but close enough that it wasn't too far to talk. "Care to share the reason behind your insomnia, or is it something you don't want to talk about?"

"It's the same thing over and over again." She said, looking up at the sky. "I keep loosing him." The lack of sleep was making her talkative. Usually she would have just walked away by now. It also didn't hurt that she liked Jounouchi and he had helped her though a lot of this when it first happened.

"...Ah."

Jounouchi was very much aware that he had no clue what this Kaiba was going through; however, he knew that if he were to lose Shizuka, to say that he wouldn't take it well would be an understatement, so he understood at least parts of what Kaiba must have been going through. And to have it replaying over and over again...

She sighed, shaking her head again. She didn't know what to do about getting the nightmares to end. She just couldn't handle it. She didn't want to deal with the death of her brother again. "I hate this place." She muttered.

If he were to be asked about it, Jounouchi wouldn't know why he did what he then did. However, the fact remained that he reached out his arm and placed his hand gently on Kaiba's shoulder. "It'll be all right," he said. "The nightmares, anyway. If they're the cause of this place acting up, they, at least should go away by the end of the week." Even if the past wouldn't, even if this place was the cause, at least there was the promise that the reminders were probably only temporary.

"Besides, you're not the only one having them," he added, almost as an afterthought, though without the tone to suggest that it was.

She said nothing as she moved to lean against him without even realizing it. She sighed softly. "I can't sleep as long as the nightmares continue." She said softly. As long as she kept seeing her brother die she couldn't sleep at all.

She needed to get some real sleep. She wasn't acting like herself. She knew that she wasn't her normal sarcastic self.

Subconsciously, Jounouchi's hand, still on Kaiba's shoulder, started rubbing in circles, ever so slightly. Nothing too hard, but an attempt toward relaxing her. "I'm sure they'll be over soon," Jounouchi assured her.

She just sat quietly, looking down at the ground. This wasn't happening. She wasn't leaning against Jounouchi Katsuya and she wasn't starting to drift off to sleep. Eventually she would fall asleep and then the nightmare would begin again. It always did.

Slowly, something began to ever-so-slightly click inside Jounouchi's own mind, that an overtired version of Kaiba Seto was leaning up against him, on the verge of falling asleep, and he wasn't pushing her away - he was, in fact, subconsciously attempting to get her to relax enough to sleep. And even as the part of him that said that there was something wrong with this picture said so, there was also an undeniable part that didn't care, as long as Kaiba would be all right in the end.

He wasn't going to push her away, though. After all, that would just start all kinds of fighting that he didn't want to go through right now. Besides, focusing on Kaiba was helping his mind to not drift back to the hallucinated sound of others' projected thoughts.

She was too tired to think about anything right now. His arm rubbing her shoulder felt nice and she needed the sleep. She closed her eyes and put her head on his shoulder. She knew that she was falling asleep against Jounouchi Katsuya, and right now she just didn't care. She would deal with the teasing later, that is, if anyone found her leaning up against him.

And as Kaiba placed her head on his shoulder, even if Jounouchi had felt daring enough to move, he wouldn't have. He was aware that this was Kaiba, falling asleep on him. He was aware of how utterly wrong this was, at least in terms of his own world. But if this was what she needed, why shouldn't he allow it?

After all, it could always be pointedly denied later that it ever happened.
