Mamoru spun on his heel to turn and face Kunzite. Shit. Shit shit shit shit shit. It was the only thing going through his head right now. This was supposed to be a simple walk in the park for a breather to gather his thoughts.

"Kunzite." Mamoru took one step back, favoring his right side. "You don't have to do this."

Quiet steps, a slow tapping of heeled boots against the floor, an exercise in mental manipulation: the uncertainty as to whether the fainter sound was real, the intimidation of the second enemy already circling, the repressed but palpable threat of that slow movement, the uncertainty of where to turn one's attention now that two opponents were coming from completely different directions. She smirked. It was beautiful.

"Kunzite!" The threat was certainly real, and her loud voice would only be the more startling coming after that quiet even though she ostensibly addressed Kunzite instead of their obvious quarry. "Please allow me to fight freely." A malicious little smile that made her eyes almost sparkle.

Mercury too? Not even his third night in Econtra and he was already getting jumped. Now that they had hurt his princess, they were moving onto him. Zoisite had been right - he should have been more careful. It wasn't safe for him out here.

It seemed as if Mamoru stood there one moment, then Endymion was there, clad in his white armor. His side was bound underneath much like it had been earlier. His gloved hand went for the sword at his side, drawing it slowly. Endymion didn't want to do this, but Kunzite had made his choice as clear as day. He would avenge his princess, even if it meant his life.

How dull. She made a slight pout, but complied, standing with sword ready rather than making a direct move against Endymion. It was Endymion now, she saw, and her eyes narrowed faintly.

And here you are now - oh so willing to draw up your blade and hold me at sword point without so much as asking me why I am no more loyal to you than you are obviously to me. Pathetic. Utterly pathetic!

Kunzite...

Yes, that easy transformation, that refusal to so much as care about why, Endymion was the same callous man in all words, and it was the reason for her budding anger once more, just as it had been that time when that other Kunzite had spoken those words. It had stopped being a theoretical and distant hate a long time ago.

Contrary to what Mercury though, Endymion was not a callous man. If fighting was what Kunzite needed to get it though his thick skull, then so be it. It was always pointless arguing with Kunzite because he was so adamant. It was one thing he admired about the leader of the Shitennou.

Endymion's feet planted in the dirt, trying to keep balanced. He didn't need Kunzite pushing him back into the water senshi. His blade was ready, aimed to block whatever Kunzite threw at him.

It was, in its way, an amusing battle to watch. A little smile played at Mercury's lips as the two men tested each other's defenses, prepared themselves to clash with their weapons. She doubted it could be very satisfying, with the cuffs preventing going much further than they already were, but it was something. A way to expel those other frustrations ( ... )

He didn't want to fight Kunzite. He wanted the man before him to be the same man he knew growing up. The one he knew from his past lives. It seemed like a lost cause though. The dark spell in him seemed too deep.

The waves of energy came crashing at him once, than twice. He stumbled back each time, barely bringing up the sword. It was in his right hand, and he brought up his left hand to stabilize it. There was the faintest wince on Endymion's face - just lifting his arm like that shot pain throughout his entire right side of his torso. He couldn't let Kunzite see it. He refused to.

He pushed the dark-haired man away with his sword, bringing it down, then swiping upwards at his midsection.

To Mercury, it was the shift in Kunzite that brought her attention to the fact something was unusual. Attuned as she was to his moods and movements, she noticed them first. A look at Endymion, to the eye of a trained healer and the girl who had been studying to be a doctor, explained Kunzite's focus on that side of Endymion. The prince was hurt. Already? No, not 'already'; she remembered it now. He'd made an open post asking for a doctor right when he'd arrived. So he'd been wounded?

Hardly her concern. At best, it was Kunzite's. And it was nothing more than an opening, an advantage to be exploited. Had the sailor senshi been her comrades for this fight, she'd have told them about the wound, told them to keep pressing that side. Kunzite, however, Kunzite needed no such reminder, would already be doing it, was already doing it. She smirked, as always forced to admire him.

Endymion's sword rose to block the thrust from Kunzite's, only to show more physical pain. Just the physical movement from his arm was making his side hurt. Each movement pulled on muscle that was just barely healing.

He would not let the pain get to him. The prince pushed forward, his sword pushing away Kunzite's to swing down on his open side.
