Kallen had headed back towards their room as soon as Lelouch had asked her to, but she hadn't hurried to do so. She dreaded finding out whether or not he was lying to her. There was a chance he wasn't Zero in his world, she supposed, but... She'd had it from both Rolo and Cornelia that Lelouch was, indeed, Zero and... It just wouldn't make sense that they would lie about it. Rolo had even been under the influence of that truth spell when he'd said it.

But it really didn't make sense for Lelouch to lie, either. If he was Zero, he had to know she was on his side. As far as she could tell, it would only help him to have her know his identity.

Which meant if he were lying, he really didn't trust her much at all. She was good enough to be his pilot, maybe, but not any sort of confidante.

If he wasn't lying, she'd just revealed her identity to him. He might say that was all right, but it wouldn't be.

Reaching the door to their room, she took a breath before opening the door and stepping in. Closing the door behind herself, she leaned against it, feeling awkward no matter which way it turned out. "Hi," she said, smiling wryly.

Lelouch, who was half-turned away from the door, turned around only slightly, not ready to face Kallen head-on. He tucked his communicator into his coat pocket, then shoved his hands in his pants pockets. But he pulled them out and folded them behind his back, presenting the facade of the proud Britannian student he usually seemed around her.

"Hi..." he replied, turning his face her way and nearly meeting her eyes.

Lelouch seemed to be acting strange, Kallen decided. Which didn't really help her figure out whether he was telling the truth or not. He probably would act strange either way. "So," she said, "why did you want to talk in person?" Please, tell me the truth.

Lelouch took a step forward, paused, then stepped back. He lifted his hand and stood still, lost in thought. Then his hand fell to his side and he looked up again.

"I'm sorry," he muttered. "I lied to you before, Q-1.

I am Zero."

Kallen breathed out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. She felt sort of shaky at the revelation, so she let her legs slowly give and bring her to a slump on the floor. "Why did you..." she said quietly.

Lelouch looked away. "...sorry," he repeated. "People get hurt because of...." He thought of Euphie and Suzaku, the way their bodies fell when they shot each other. "I didn't want you to see me differently, I guess."

"All this time...it's been you," Kallen said. It was almost unbelievable, that it really had been Lelouch all this time.

She could remember being vaguely suspicious, way beck when Zero had first appeared, but... He'd been at the party with the others when Zero had called her. Did that mean someone else was Zero in her world? Or that he had some way to get around her finding out? Probably it was the latter; Zero was good at getting things to go his way.

"That's right," he said, watching her warily. She was in such shock, it seemed, that he wondered if it was all right after all that he'd told her.

He stepped forward, and knelt down, keeping a respectful distance from her. "Is...that all right?" he asked.

Was that all right, he asked. It being all right or not wouldn't make anything different. Really, the only thing that wasn't all right was that he hadn't told her long ago. But then, Kallen had always been fine with not knowing who Zero was, even if she couldn't help but be curious.

She chuckled. Really, it was absurd that Lelouch had known who she was all this time and hadn't said anything. But maybe there was something stranger. "I've got your outfit. Your Zero outfit. From when C.C. disappeared."
