Somehow...in the midst of some military imprisonment, in the friends and aquaintances he had made, one man found peace and happiness in one place. The one place in the compound that filled him with a feeling of serenity. A sensation that he could only remember, relaxing lazily in the vast fields of Hyrule. Optimistic, true, loving, heroic, and quiet...

The day was perfect. With the Master Sword and Hylian Shield safely stowed in his barracks, he moved into the open, for the first time since being here, unarmed. This was how calm he felt, rays of a golden hue swaying through the openings in the leaves, providing a warmth that could only compliment the smile gracing his lips. As if in a trance and unaware of the rest of the world, Link's eyes were closed, and yet they were open in another time.

"Link..." Her voice echoed in his thoughts, in his heart, in his soul. He could only pray for her safety, wherever she was; and that for her sake, she would never have to come to this cursed world, evil lurking just around the bend. He had yet to face these Entropi, but he already shared a sense of fear for the others who would face this foe. His courage knew no bounds, limitless as was his determination. But to lose those that he had befriended here...

Even if he were to return home, he would have the memories of the lost forever in his thoughts.

Ever soothing, ever so gracious, ever so serene, the Ocarina of Time's melody almost had an echo to it, like it was trying to reach out to someone, but to no avail. Far away, out of reach, but a goal to work towards and return to, one of these days. Even if peace had been restored to their land, she was dear to him. Yet another person to protect.

'Zelda...'

And if another Princess listened, she would find that something so beautiful was just right around the corner. Or right below, in Kurogane's case.

"Hmm?" Sakura opened her eyes. What a beautiful sound, so comforting almost familiar. She staid as she was, leaning against the tree, just listening to the song of the ocarina. Her eyes gently falling shut after a while.

She really would like to know the source of such a tune. When it felt to her like the song was coming to an end the princess woke from this somewhat of a trance the lullaby had put her under and peered around to the other side of the tree.

"Linkun," Sakura's expression was now more of happiness than of contentment to see her friend.

Why the hell was everyone gathering under his tree? Hells, there goes his quiet. Maybe the two of them would go off somewhere else and let Kurogane go back to enjoying his day. Unlikely. If they didn't notice him up here then he'd try his damn hard not to notice them down there. If they got to chatty then he'd try climbing down the other side of the tree without them noticing.

The very last few notes soared from the instrument, the second his lips left the Ocarina of Time, a familiar voice reached out to him. Opening his eyes, he was sitting, leaning against the tree. Unfortunately for Kurogane, this wasn't exactly a secret place; fortunately though, no one had seemed to notice him yet! And with Princess Sakura here, the Hylian could remain pre-occupied if the man valued privacy. Though if he had known, he would have paid his respects.

"Princess Sakura!" His smile was sweet, blinking a couple of times as he looked up to the happy girl he had befriended here. He was holding the Ocarina in his lap by now, his expression enough to describe what he thought of her precense. A silent hello.

Sakura wasn't the most observant of people so Kurogane's presence in the tree went unnoticed by here and would probably remain that way unless something caught her attention up there. Luckily enough for Kurogane the princess was further distracted by meeting a friend there.

"That was a really pretty song." She said, kneeling down next to Link.

Thank the gods was all he had to say about the other two's lack of awareness to his presence. He watched as the girl knelt down next to the other. He shifted slightly in his seat on the branch to look at the other side of the tree to start searching for a quiet way down. If those two were getting comfortable then he might as well let them have to damn tree and search out a new place.

With her kind words, and his humble state of mind, the resulting combination was a Hylian man with a faint glow of pink to his cheeks. It was a pretty song, but Link couldn't compare to the way that Zelda or Sheik could play the harp or ocarina. A compliment was a compliment though, and it couldn't have come from anyone nicer.

"Thank you. A good friend taught it to me." He nodded.

Most playing would have impressed Sakura, after all she couldn't play any musical instrument. But that didn't change the fact that she really did like hearing Link play his ocarina.

"That was nice of them." She said tilting her head with a tender smile. "And you play so well."

Yeah, yeah. Nice song. But he wanted quiet now. Kurogane decided to leave the other two to their chat and go find a new tree for himself. He silently climbed down lower on the other side and dropped out of the tree silently. Kurogane stood up, happy he hadn’t been stopped yet. He would have walked off without alerting either of his presence if he didn’t step on a stick that made a surprisingly loud snap. Kurogane froze and then sighed wearily at himself. This place seemed to suck all his usual ninja grace and stealth right out of him.

Once again, his humble tendencies rose to the surface as he rubbed the back of his head, avoiding her eyes as he lightly blushed. Some would say that he had grown into his adult body, a true Hylian man; he was just innocent. But sometimes, even in the Hero of Time's own mind, he was still that 10 year old boy at heart. "Oh, well... I'm okay; I mean, I'm no Princess Zelda but..."

'Snap!' He was quickly brought out of his thoughts, his long ears almost twitching as his Hylian senses could pick up on even the most silent of sounds. ...not that this was silent or anything. Blinking, he rose up before putting the Ocarina of Time away, curious as to who may have been there as well. Or was it a little critter?

Glancing around the side of the tree, he looked to find someone who looked like he was about to sneak off. He didn't think nothing of him, he just happened to be there! "Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't see you there..." Looking back down to Sakura whom had knelt beside him, he offered his hand with a smile.

Sakura blinked, watching her friend's nervous reaction. Oblivious as ever to those sort of emotions she didn't think anything of it. She might have asked about the Princess Zelda he'd just mentioned had it not been for the sudden Snap that forced a change in subject.

She looked in that direction then up at Link from where she was kneeling on the ground there didn't appear to be anything there.

The princess took the hand offered to her, with a silent 'thank you' - a smile and a slight nod. "Kurogane-san?" She asked once standing again "How long have you been here?"

Kurogane sighed and waved goodbye to his peaceful time alone before turning to look back at the guy greeting him. He looked them both over quickly. They both looked to be about the same age as Tomoyo was here and didn't look at all familiar. That made him lift an eyebrow slightly at the girl's greeting to him, but he had been through this sort of thing before.

"Not the one you know," he told her as he turned around fully to face them. "... And I was in the tree before you two came along," muttering slightly. Kurogane was mostly just annoyed at being found out because of some stupid twig, but there was also the chance he'd have to explain why a grown man was sitting in a tree. Even if it was a good reason.

The Princess had taken to kneeling down by his side before Kurogane's precense was discovered, so it was only right that he return her to her feet! Even if he wouldn't have minded simply sitting there. It was nice today. But meeting new people wasn't a downside in anyway, either. Lifting her up with ease, Link's attention returned to the dark haired man trying to make an exit.

So she knew him! ...sort of. "Not the one you know,"

A shame, too. The Hylian wasn't too observant at times, but maybe there was another Kurogane here! One that she knew. It was possible. Blinking at the explanation of where he was, he looked up for a moment. Those were some pretty sturdy branches. If it weren't for that twig, he would have gotten away too!

Judging by the tone in his voice...

Link couldn't help but frown, as if he had done something wrong. "I'm sorry, sir... Did I disturb you?" Okay, maybe that was obvious, but t'was in the blond's nature, after all.

So there was another Kurogane, just like there was another her. They had always known since shortly after starting their journey that they could meet different versions of people they knew but up until now they had never met another version of themselves.

"I'm sorry too. We didn't know you were up there." Sakura's cheeks turned a little pink. That would mean he saw everything. Not that there was anything to be embarrassed about, just two friends talking about music.

Although she would have liked to know what made him different from her friend Sakura wouldn't ask. The 'same soul' Kurogane wouldn't like it if she asked about private things. Even about the tree...

That 'tone' was pretty much average for Kurogane, but he wasn't going to bother with the look it got from the kid. And it was obvious Kurogane had been disturbed by the music. However the other two could have sat silently and the ninja would have still left the area. 'Peaceful, quiet, relaxing time' was meant to be celebrated alone. The interuption wasn't enough to bug Kurogane much though. Not given how his week had been so far.

Kurogane waved the matter away dismissively, "It's fine." There were other trees to try to take a nap in... The more he thought stuff like that the more he wondered just how much Fay was decreasing his sanity.

Mentally sighing in relief, the Hylian offered a friendly smile. He seemed like the private kind of man, but he seemed tolerable as well. That was a relief for Link. And yet despite that, he couldn't stop himself.

"So...what were you doing in the tree?"

The irony behind this question? The Hylian had once been living in a tree his entire life.
