Melancholia. She knew the definitions. A mood disorder, non-specific depression. It wasn't her field of expertise, but as a prospective doctor, she was aware of it. Mercury found herself drifting towards the stairs, climbing to the roof. She'd always been able to think best there, and there was more than enough on her mind.
Mars, the one who was the princess. Why had Mercury felt that out-of-place guilt if she'd truly cut herself off from the senshi? What had she helped to injure - a destructive girl with the power to erase a planet, or a friend she'd been so close to remembering? There'd been a flash of a smile, of kindly advice. Who was she with these half-memories? They were figments of her past, there was no other answer, but that didn't help her make any more sense of them.
Kunzite, two Kunzites. All the ways she was tied to them, free from them, resented them, cared for them. The ways they hated each other and both laid claim to her so that she was pressed in between them just as surely as he'd once pressed her between himself and that wall. The desire not to betray the one, the desire for more of the patience and kindness the other showed her. The inability to forget that Econtra was only temporary.
She'd been on the roof awhile now in solitude. Mercury was still looking down on the 'city'. Some of the Drafted scurried to and fro on errands or to see each other. The buildings were dull, plain, colorless. A faint breeze was blowing; it felt pleasant on her face.
