Characters: AU!Matt and AU!Mello Where: Ast-Dyo When: Last night Summary: Mello invites Matt over for drinking, when there's a truth serum going round. Warnings: Who knows.
Mello was in the middle of the living area. He already had Two bottles of sake out. There were a few more left in his room, but those would be saved for later. They had enough with their current shares.
Mello had been feeling weird throughout this whole week. He had been avoiding the communicators because of the truth plague that was making the compound run off at the mouth. For one, if he had to be honest, he'd rather say it to the person's face, and he didn't want it to be out in the open where anyone would see it.
He glanced up from his spot on the couch and moved closer to the edge as an invite for her to sit. "Matt." He answered, waving his hand casually at her.
"Hey." She nodded at him, closing the door behind her.
Matt stepped over to the couch and sat down next to him, leaning back against the cushions with a inward sigh and glancing at him. "So this for anything special or are we just drinking?" The latter was a good reason in Econtra, place of continual boredom.
"Special? Not really." It was just like any other day around here. Mello just had been in one of those moods. He needed something for a distraction, and being that he was relatively done with fixing up the game room there was nothing left for him to distract himself with at the moment.
It was times like these that he really wanted to go home, regardless of who or what he'd be leaving behind. It was probably better that way; before h got to attached to someone again. It was hard not to look towards someone and reach out, for the simple fact that it was a change of pace.
He stretched out and lazily sucked at the end of a chocolate bar. "Just wanted to break the routine." He shrugged.
"Don't we all." She answered with a dry chuckle, though even this was routine wasn't it? Something they'd done before anyway. Matt missed the routine of over a year ago, sat in her nice little apartment with her computers and games, doing what she wanted. Not just that, knowing she could walk out and go to the shops or drive a car or the hundred other things people took for granted in life.
Matt wanted normality, that was kind of sad.
"Fine by me." the redhead nodded and pulled out her cigarette's.
Econtra never allowed normality. Econtra was just another cage, there to lock everyone up and take away their freedoms. It was, in reality, nothing more than a prison. You maybe not be expected to do more than exist for the rare occasion of an attack, but freedom really didn't exist. The cuffs were proof, if nothing else
( ... )
Matt nodded, "Yeah I know, hard to talk when you think something you want kept secret might spill out at any time." She lit up a cigarette and took a slow drag, looking across the room. Another and she blew out a smoke ring, smiling as the swirling smoke slowly expanded and disappated in the air.
"We've managed to avoid spilling anything so far, can't last much longer." So long as they focused on not telling the truth then they could probably manage to fight against the effects. It seemed stronger in some than others.
"Unless we took advantage of it." Though, they already had one session after the truth or dare. She pretty much knew what he had to say, and he knew what he wanted to know back then. More or less anyway.
Mello stretched again and let out a deep sigh. It was probably unavoidable now, but he'd deal with whatever consequences there were. Not like he had a choice in the matter anyway.
"Whats there to take advantage of? There's nothing I want to find out. No big mysteries to try and find." Kira was as good as outed, that was more something for L to find out too. Trying to take advantage of it also meant putting yourself at risk to others questions too, so the smart thing to do would be ignoring it. Matt didn't want anyone finding out things like her real name.
Shrugging she leaned forward and grabbed a sake bottle. "Might as well make a start then, right?" Matt took a drag of her cigarette before opening the sake and taking a gulp.
Mello shrugged. "There's people who would. That's why I've been avoiding the communicators." At least for the most part. He did check up on it every now and then just in case.
He reached out for his own bottle and crossed one leg over his knee. His tongue flicked out to lap at the chocolate bar that remains held to his mouth. Fingers curled around the bottle as he studied the design thoughtfully. "Be nice if I had more of this stuff." He had expected more, considering the price he had paid. Better this than nothing, though.
"True." Though she had to wonder if anyone around here really cared about them enough to attempt to extract information like that, no one seemed to take much notice of her usually. Mello might be too paranoid but given their world, it wasn't unfounded.
Another swallow and she went back to working on finishing off her cigarette before she drank anymore. "You could try making it, other people seem to have managed to distill their own stuff."
"Then there's always the opportunity of asking each other stuff we want to know." Mello added. Though he couldn't think of anything he really wanted to know that badly. There was nothing he wanted to push for.
"I thought about that. I might have to. It just takes so damn long." He probably should have started to distill his own when they got here, but he didn't have the means for it back then.
"Is there anything you want to know about me?" She asked, a little wary, though she couldn't think what there was for him to ask. Mello had gotten all his aswers last time, when he made her tell him about L and everything that had happened there, she didn't think there was anything left.
"All the more reason to make a start on it now." She pointed out, the sooner he worked on it the sooner he'd be able to drink it. "I'll help out if you want, make a distiller."
"I don't know right now." Mello replied. He set his chocolate down and opened the bottle of sake. He took a sip and savored the taste, letting it run warmly down his throat. "I guess I' ask how you felt towards the new Mello." He muttered absently. He didn't even realize he said it until his lips pressed together afterward.
"If you want to make one. We can set up an area in one of the spare rooms in the office building." There had been a portion of the floor that Mello had ignored in favor of having storage space for whatever equiptment he could get a hold of.
"Well..." She sat back and looked thoughtful, though before she knew it her mouth was opening and the words were spilling forth. Matt realised she really must be affected. "I like him, he's fun and amusing, reminds me a lot of the Mello where I'm from, that attitude of his." The rough but good guy, a friend. "He's a friend." Nothing more, sure they occassionally play flirted with each other, but that was all.
The redhead nodded and smiled, "Sounds good to me, gives us something to work on." Stubbing out the cigarette butt she drank more sake, licking her lips after.
"That's all?" Mello was a little skeptical. It seemed more like the other Mello didn't want to share her just as much as he didn't. Though he wasn't sure. He didn't mind sharing her, but he didn't want to be just another Mello. Hearing her say that this one was like her Mello back home wasn't all that relieving to hear, considering all he knew about her.
"I doubt any of it will be as good as this." Mello hummed, taking another sip.
"What're you expecting me to say?" She asked instead of answering. Did he think she was going out with him or something? MAtt thought he knew her better than that, knew she didn't want to go out with any Mello. That skeptical tone wasn't something she liked at all.
Shrugging she replied, "Most likely not, but poor booze is probably better than none. And we could make moonshine instead of sake." Nice as sake was, she'd like to have some western style drinks.
