Characters: OU Larka and AU Jounouchi Katsuya
Where: the Park
When: some time in the early afternoon-ish
Summary: He's never seen a talking wolf before.  She, however, has seen him before.
Warnings: A typical first reaction to a talking animal.  Mentioning of various brainwashings, including related uncomfortableness and angst.  Me talking to myself.  Stuff like that.

It was the beginning of the afternoon, and Larka was taking a nap by the water.  ...Well, by taking a nap, that meant that, though she appeared asleep to passers by, she was only half-asleep.  True, sometimes she did sleep through the entire afternoon, but not always.

This particular afternoon, she heard a branch snap, causing her to be slightly more alert than usual.  Listening more closely, she could hear footsteps, belonging to a human.  Not that this was uncommon - the place was built mostly for humans, anyway.

However, unlike most other times, the footsteps came closer to where Larka was until they stopped just a little ways down the waterfront, where she could see the source.  And she had seen the source of the footsteps before, in a vision.

Jounouchi, for his part, was still tired.  He hadn't been getting much sleep lately - the earplugs had helped when people had decided to set off the fireworks, but they couldn't get rid of the dreams - most of which he couldn't remember but still woke up tired from, but one of which he strongly disliked going through.  So he'd decided to come out to the park for a little fresh air, as well as to tire himself out enough that he'd fall asleep quickly and easily when that time came.  (He was also thinking of requesting passionflower leaves, to see if a tea made from them would help at all.)

"The human dragga accross the water stands paralyzed as a large, black lizard with leathery, bat-like wings appears in a shower of light, roaring to make known its displeasure toward its former master's condition."

Hearing that, Jounouchi immediately looked toward the sound of the voice - hearing someone talk to him when he hadn't noticed anyone there usually wasn't a good thing, and besides that, what the voice said sounded oddly like it referred to...

"The lizard is attacked, its wing torn to shreds and its legs unable to support it anymore, and the dragga across the water clutches his head in agonizing pain."

"Who's there?" Jounouchi asked, freaking out slightly more with every word.  He had been expecting to see another human there, but there was no one.

Larka sighed - of course he would expect a human, wouldn't he.  "Down here."

And following the voice's instructions cautiously, Jounouchi looked down to see, of all things, a wolf talking to him.  "GAAH!"  Which, of course, made him jump backward several feet, landing ceremoniously on his rear end.

"Is accepting that a Varg can communicate with you really that difficult, Jounouchi?" Larka asked, her voice remaining at its usual curious level.  She was used to it, by now.

It took a minute before Jounouchi could manage to respond, "Maybe not, considering, but how do you know my name?"

"Someone told me your name," Larka replied.  "I saw you in the water, relayed my vision to those who would care to hear, and they recognized what I described."  After a moment, she added, "What I have described is accurate, is it not?"

Jounouchi turned his head away, thinking that it was so great, having met a psychic talking wolf of all things.  "I don't like to talk about it much, especially with people - and animals - that I don't know."

"Understandable," Larka replied, assuming a seated position.  "It has never happened to me, but I've seen it several times.  It must be hard to know that it happened - harder still to remember the details."  She wasn't sure how Slavka had taken the knowledge of Morgra's invasion of her mind, but Fell...

"You could say that," Jounouchi muttered, looking dismally out toward the water.  Oh, how he wished sometimes that he could just forget that day, pretend it never happened.  Sure, Yugi had forgiven him, but...

"But," Larka continued, "ever since the day I saw what happened, I decided that if I ever met the subject of my vision, I would thank him."

"Thank me?" Jounouchi wondered, and Larka nodded.

"Because I was able to see what happened to you, others were able to interpret its meaning and use that knowledge to save another from a similar spell."

And Jounouchi's face twisted into one of a combination of fear and disgust.  "There's someone here who can... who would do that?"

"It was several months ago now," Larka replied, "and the one who used the power to touch minds has since rethought his ways.  I suspect that there are various beings here who potentially could but don't decide to - as long as one avoids their anger, it shouldn't happen."  She, in theory, had that ability, after all, if she actually cared to explore the power of the Man Varg.

Jounouchi sighed a little bit, convincing himself that there wasn't any reason to be paranoid about it all.  "Well, in that case..." he replied with an attempted grin, "I guess it's a good thing, that my experience was able to cut someone else's short."

"Which is why I thank you," Larka replied.

Jounouchi would have made a response, but he was interrupted by a grumble coming from his stomach.  Ah yes, that was right, he hadn't eaten lunch yet.  "I should probably go get some lunch," he said, slightly embarrased.  "It was nice meeting you, um..."

"Larka," was the Varg's reply.

"Larka, then.  See you around."  And with that, Jounouchi left to return to his apartment, his thoughts still focusing on those things that he would rather not think about.

And as for Larka, as soon as Jounouchi was out of sight, she muttered, "Yes, I will see you around."  Returning to her usual napping spot, she finished, "It's a small enough place, after all, when compared to the great forests."
