She never remembered actually dying before. She just knew something like it had to have happened before. Because she was this terrified. Like she knew what was to come. She felt there were be an unbearable darkness and lonliness, but she didn't remember why this could have happened. She supposed it happened in that time she forgot. But even if she couldn't remember, she was terrified. What if what those zealots had said were true.
Perhaps she didn't have a soul. She wouldn't move to the place beyond death and the Ghost Zone. Would she be alone again? But she heard his voice. She heard Danny. So she had to go somewhere with her family, right? Right? Or maybe she was just delusional.
She was slumped against the front of the bank turned dojo. Her vision was blurring, but she could see the red blood staining her clothes. She had been human when she was hit. She could have survived if she was a ghost and turned back. All the cuts and scrapes from when she had been injured has a ghost were only bruises now. The more severe the damage, the deeper the bruise. Suffice to say, her body was covered in them.
But not the stab wound. After using the Wail so long, she could barely stand, let alone maintain her ghost form. And as everything collapsed around her, the Fright Knight stabbed her in the back. She knew her heard wasn't pierced. Perhaps a lung was. It was so hard to breathe, though that may have been the damage to her vocal cords for using the Wail like that.
She really didn't know. Everything was a jumbled mess in her head. Five years. It had been five years since she was in Econtra. This too, could have been a delusion as well. After all, she might have just wanted to believe in some way to survive. To return to the Resistance or to even just be sure the Ghost King was down.
...had she killed again? She might have. She couldn't be sure. And even if it was the Ghost King, even if it was that bastard Pariah Dark, it felt heavy against her already straining chest. She hadn't known what she was going to do when she faced Pariah, but it seemed she really did have to kill again.
"Can I...at least....see my family...?" Dani whispered, her sight starting to darken a bit. Hadn't she done enough good for just one more glance?
